The cult classic strikes back!

Star Wars™: Shadows of the Empire, the beloved action/arcade game set between Episode V and Episode VI, is now available DRM-free on GOG.com with a 20% launch discount.

Who among us hasn't dreamt of being offered a spot in the venerable Rogue Squadron? And when Han Solo himself is the one approaching you to ask for help against the Empire, it's hard to refuse, even if you are the hard-as-nails smuggler Dash Rendar.

The fight will take Rendar, his co-pilot droid Leebo, and his trusty spaceship The Outrider through iconic locations where Star Wars™ history was made. Whether he is taking down AT-ATs on Hoth, fighting off assassins sent after Luke Skywalker, or dueling Boba Fett, the adventures of Dash evoke that unmistakable Star Wars™ vibe that quickly turned him into a fan favorite. Because once you've experienced the varied gameplay and atmospheric cutscenes telling the story of Dash's struggle against the villainous Prince Xizor, you can't help but feel that his exploits are a significant part of the epic saga.

Join the daring Dash Render as he helps the Rebellion escape Star Wars™: Shadows of the Empire, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 20% discount will last until May 9th, 12:59 PM UTC.
Tsk tsk, yet another release that lacks the name of Freddi Fish 2. Truly, this misstep will further lead to the demise of Above-Average Elderly Computer Atractions.
I remember playing the N64 version of SW:SotE on...my brother's N64. Having a PC version is a nice addition to my growing retro game library. Downloading as I type this.

Nergal01: Bought it and played through the first three levels with my XBOX 360 pad. Works like a charm, although I still had to use the keyboard for activating objects or switching my weapon.

Looks like this was a good purchase.
YES! I'm downloading it now. I have a Xbox 360 (wired) pad and a Logitech F310 pad. Awesome news.

HOW LONG THE LAUNCH DISCOUNT?

(Sorry the all caps- but I see it's been asked like 3, 4 5 times already - and there are Blue replies ITT - but not on this important point.)

I assume it's the same period as the other sales - but you know what they say about assuming ... How about a clear answer (or, better, edit the release announcement to show it - so others don't need to search a forum thread)
Just finished playing the Hoth Battle with a wired Xbox 360 controller. Worked great. Plays ALOT like the N64 version, but with smoother graphics and cinematic cut-scenes.

Without the launch discount it's only $6. Worth every penny.

Oh, very cool. I dumped my N64 carts to files several years ago and this is one I load up every now and again. Well, for the first stage anyway. The rest of the game is, uhh, I don't want to say "on rails" but, tunnel-visioney? All 'n' all though, I've gotten plenty of enjoyment out of it. And only 5 bucks for the superior PC version... sure, I'm in.

mistermumbles: Like others I'm hoping it won't be the only Star Wars release this week, but I wouldn't be surprised if this was it. We shall see.
There are definitely some games on my list, I would like to see on GOG:
- SW Episode I Racer
- SW Episode I Phantom Menace
- both games from the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed "series"
- Star Wars: Battlefront 1 (the first one, without the Jedis)
- Joda Desktop Adventure
- SW Chess - why not? :)
Shadows of the Empire is performing excellently so far. Thank you GoG/Disney for making this happen! I

My only gripe so far is the increased frame-rate seems to have made the game run a lot faster. It is making the speeder bike level exceedingly difficult to beat. I tried using some cheats to bypass the levels and none of them worked.

Anybody have any ideas or advice?
...and purchased.

There seems to be a version of the game containing German subtitles as well?
Yep, apparently there is a version with german subs. You can grab the german manual here:

Thanks for bringing my attention to this! Added it to my gogmix (especially as I haven't found an English pc version) so that people will be able to find it more easily.

It lasts until the end of promo.
Sorry I couldn't answer yesterday but I need to get a confirmation from our sales folks.

Why no Force Commander?

pacciulli: Finally! :)
Been waiting a long time for this as well :)

IwubCheeze: Why no Force Commander?
Ah, forgot that one. Yeah, that was a very heavily criticized game, back in it's time ...

Well, shiiiiiit. This would have been precisely the reason for me to pick the GOG version up, as it's been a longstanding problem with my retail copy. But if the GOG version offers no advantages over the retail version, then what's the point?
