The triumvirate of strategic gameplay.

Civilization III: Complete, Civilization IV: The Complete Edition, and CivCity: Rome, three of the most celebrated entries in the wildly popular and critically-acclaimed franchise, are now available, DRM-free on GOG.com. Get them individually with a 33% launch discount or grab all three in a bundle for 50% off.

Let's be honest: our civilization would not be nearly as advanced if our ancient forefathers had the Sid Meier's Civilization games available to them. It's not just their incredible 4X depth that keeps you engaged for hours upon hours, it's how addictive the experience is, compelling you to stay for "just one more turn" so that you don't go to bed with any part of the map left unexplored or any hostility left unanswered.

Civilization III Complete and especially Civilization IV: The Complete Edition took the franchise to new heights by introducing new mechanics, improving the visuals and hooking players with additional modes and strategic options. They are the perfect challenge for those who want to build their empire, negotiate with other nations, and conquer their place in history through the years.

CivCity: Rome is a city-builder spin-off where you manage some of the greatest cities of the Roman Empire. Not only will you set up their infrastructure and help them grow, but you also have the chance to look inside the buildings and observe your citizens going about their everyday lives!

Discover the amazing strategic depth of the Civilization franchise with Civilization III: Complete, Civilization IV: The Complete Edition, and CivCity: Rome, DRM-free on GOG.com.
The 33/50% discount will last until December 5, 10:59 AM UTC.

mistermumbles: I'm actually surprised that people still seem to be making mods for both Civ 3 and 4.
I think it's not suprising because Civ5 modding is very limited in comparison to the older Civ games.
I have the originals, but still an istanbuy for me.
But I am a bit disappointed they did not release Civ 1 and 2. Civ 1 should be no problem with DOSBOS;Civ 2 has a few problems but you can tweak it to run on a modern computer;it should not be any more difficult for GOG to make a version for a modern Computer then it was for quite a few of the early Windows 95 games.

roflbobby: Yippee, bundled goodness. Thanks GOG for bringing these games. Now only the missing prequels have to arrive too, to make the joy complete.

Civilization
Civilization II

There's quite a few different versions and expansions listed, but i'm just gonna list the base games as i'm not familiar with the different versions.
Basically for Civ 2 you had the original base game and two expansions.
They were combined into a bundle as Civilzation 2:Gold.
The Gold version is a 32 bit program except for the install program which is 16 bit,but the original Civ 2 and the original cd's for the expansion are 16 bit.
It should not be that diffiuclt for GOG to get the Civ 2 gold working since there are tweaks on the Civilization website that get arorund the instashield problem .
As for Civ 1,that should be no problem since it is a Dosprogram and GOG can just use their usual DOSBOX shield.

amrit9037: Both Civilization III Complete and Civilization IV Complete are DRM free on DVD.
One of my friend brought both from Amazon sale for about 5$ from same sale there was a flash deal on Civilization Beyond Earth and he got it for amount equivalent to 0.01$.

barleyguy: Civ 3 Complete is not DRM free. It has a CD check. Won't even run without the disk in the drive .
The version of CIV 3 on the "Civ III and IV Complete" DVD has the CD check removed.

Ah, good to know. I've never played any of them till the gog releases of 3 & 4. I have to imagine the hold up for 1 & 2 may be rights issues being split up or something.

Probably. I suspect that 2K only keeps the rights for CIV3 onward. The previous games were published by Microprose. We'll probably have to wait until Nightdive Studios acquires the rights for them ,like they've done to other Microprose games.

OK. But the "Civ 3 Complete" DVD that's sold by itself still has the check. At the least the one I have.

Calamitus: Nice to see these games on GOG, i already miss Warhammer mod for Civ3.

mistermumbles: *googles mod* Ooh. That looks pretty snazzy.

I'm actually surprised that people still seem to be making mods for both Civ 3 and 4.
People even still play these games, and they are already quite some years old. Shows that good games do age only very slowly if you ask me.

Both Civs (III and IV) have quite good mod support and literally tons of good mods each.

I can recommend:

A No-CD check executable is readily available. However it's more convenient to work without physical media nowadays except for the resellability. The sold DVDs are truly yours.

I'm still trying to decide which one to get if not both; I'm not terribly interested in Rome. It's been about a decade I'd say when I last had a brush with the Civ series. I'm not typically one to mod my games - yeah, I'm weird like that - but these games tend to lend themselves very well to such, and from the mods I looked at the ones available for Civ 3 look more enticing to me. *shrug* Either way I think getting both may be a bit overkill as I'm very likely to end up playing one over the other. Hmmmm.

Edit: Never mind. I just decided to get both anyway. It's not like I was buying a lot during this sale anyway.

On the plus side, this means I can remove Civ 4 Complete Edition from my CamelCamelCamel watchlist for Amazon Marketplace deals.

On the minus side, I have to decide whether I wait for an 80% discount or justify spending more than $5 on a 75% discount as "I can squint my eyes and pretend that 'Civ4 + all expansions' and 'Civ 4: Colonization' are two separate games".

(I only own Civ4 and Beyond the Sword physically, so the latter would be justifiable, if unorthodox.)

Had to rub my eyes in wonder when I saw Civilization IV pop up in one of the Winter Sale bundles. Is this here, really... REALLY?

*happy dance*

The best Civilization game by a country mile, especially compared with 5 and (soon?) 6. Incredibly deep and offers so many choices, people are still coming up with new strategies even today. And yes, that's no lie. Check out the Hall of Fame section of the Civ Fanatics forum.

I have played this game more hours than modern computers can count, but wouldn't mind getting it in a digital edition too. Maybe not now at 33% off, but sometime. Otherwise Tokugawa will probably be angry with me =)
Thanks gog and 2k for this release. I had only base game and BTS, couldn't get hold of the complete edition at the time.

tejozaszaszas: None as good as Civilization II.
Lol. I've managed to re-install the original Civ 2 (1997 ver.), on Windows 10.

That makes it 20 years old. And still playable.
