Just a bad hair day.

Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, the cheeky platformer/metroidvania where the purple-haired genie gets rubbed the wrong way, is available now for Windows, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 50% launch discount.

Shantae is not having the best of days. She has lost her genie powers and her blissful bubble bath just got rudely interrupted. Oh and it seems like she'll also have to join forces with her arch-nemesis, the feisty pirate mistress Risky Boots, in order to save the land from an evil curse. Great, just great. At least she still has her audacious belly-dancing moves and her lethally fabulous coif to help her get through the day. And eliminate the man-eating beasties.

But being a pirate turns out to also have some cool advantages, as Shantae can now use more than her hair-whips to dispose of enemies and traverse the treacherous levels. All these new weapons and moves will soon come in handy, because the place is teeming with monsters, traps, and bosses who didn't get the memo about the overconsumption of carbs. There is also a diverse cast of colourful characters to interact with, and among the frenetic platforming and the relentless fighting, Shantae is determined to have a good time, while saving the land and getting back her mojo. Even if that requires an uneasy alliance with, like, the most untrustworthy pirate ever.

Wipe out pesky monsters and scary bosses with your hair-whips, and rebottle your missing magic powers in Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 50% discount will last until March 4, 10:59 AM GMT.

tfishell: I think I've seen one or two posts on Reddit about that too, Brazilians mentioning they'd buy more here if GOG had regional pricing for Brazil (or I guess "more competitive" regional pricing).
avatar
joppo: It's weird. Sometimes they do offer a lower price, sometimes we get the base price for games with regional pricing, and there's no way of knowing why a particular game got it and other did not. No clear logic behind it. Maybe it was the publisher's decision?

At least we never get a higher than base price so I'm okay with it.
I've noticed the same thing as well. Most of the time is is simply the US price + conversion rate, but occasionally you get a "Shantae and the Pirate's Curse" and you can't work out why the price is lower. Not that I complain then :)

joppo: Now if only the brazilian government's combined brains had two brain cells to rub together our economy could be in a decent state and I'd probably get the game right away. But I digress...
Oh well, not a problem. I'm a patient guy with a backlog large enough to keep me busy for years after all. :-)
Our Australian economy isn't yet really horrible but we have been hit hard by the drop in demand in China. So much of our trade consists of digging holes and exporting those diggings to other countries (China). Iron ore, Coal and Gas and some foot stuffs (though droughts don't help with that one). As a country we didn't have the brains to support our scientists and 1/4 to 1/3 of those that worked for our peak science bodies were laid off over the last 10 years. They have to go overseas if they want to work in those fields.

Australia is mainly geared at exporting raw resources, food and catering to tourists (just don't show them the holes in the ground where the raw resources were :(

Chacranajxy: Man, I'm really happy this is here now. I feel like people's expectations for what a 2D actioner can be have been lowered with all the me-too indie games that plague the market now. This game is the real deal. It's up there with classics like Mega Man X. Fantastic level design, perfect music, and charm... it's really something special.

If you're on the fence, I think you should give it a shot.
That is giving the game a lot of credit. I bought Risky's Revenge, but you convinced me to buy Pirate's Curse, too. Thanks.

I can absolutely relate. Brazil NEVER offered serious support to science and technological development. Barring a few federal universities and agricultural research foundations, pretty much every capable brain in these fields need to go work elsewhere (mostly US and EU). We're focused on producing cheap raw resources and food and importing industrialized expensive products. Changing this would require heavy changes in our educational system but, you know, teaching the masses to think is against every politician's best interests. I'm not exactly optimistic it'll ever change.

I guess I already derailed the thread enough. But it was nice getting to know about Australia's situation and vicklemos' knowledge of Brazilian culture.
Thanks to this release, I finally found the darned item in RR, and thus my urge to continue playing has been reinstated.

Fairfox: I will buy this and the other title eventually, for it is a game that looks game-y and good.

Edit: I'm doing it right, right?
People usually just say 'wishlisted'.
So there;s no gamepad/controller support for the game?

Also, any differences between GOG version and the Wii U/3DS ones?

Marioface5: It does have controller support.
Does it have auto-mapped keys for the Xbox 360 controller?

Ophelium: So...about that Double Dragon Neon...
Different publisher...

I don't think so.

If I'm understanding the question properly, then yes. You can play the game with a 360 controller from the very start without any extra setup.
I still need to know if the game runs in Wine.
Missed the sale!! :'( I will think about getting it at full price... But isn´t it too high?
