GOG Digital Premieres - Call of Cthulhu Adventures

Shadow of the Comet and Prisoner of Ice, a mind-bending duo of Call of Cthulhu adventure classics, premiere digitally right now - DRM-free on GOG.com.

An original horror-adventure duo from Infogrames, (the company well known for their Alone in the Dark series) Shadow of the Comet and Prisoner of Ice are two of the very few games that get to boast actually taking place within the Call of Cthulhu mythos. With a pedigree like that, you can be sure that you're getting the best of the atmosphere and uncomfortable flavor of a true H.P. Lovecraft story.

Shadow of the Comet (Win + Linux) is the tale of a young British photographer out to capture a one-of-a-kind comet passing over an isolated New England town of Illsmouth. He discovers that the last person to attempt this spent the rest of his life in a high-security lunatic asylum. Soon, he'll also discover why… In Prisoner of Ice (Win + Mac + Linux) an indirect sequel to Shadow of the Comet, you're just another officer aboard the HMS Victoria - a military sub returning from a simple extraction operation. Just another run of the mill job, the target is safe and you're counting down the time till your shore leave. Little do you know, it's also a matter of time until you look straight in the eye of an ancient evil aboard.

Shadow of the Comet and Prisoner of Ice are terrifying 2D adventure games that received critical acclaim for successfully capturing the unique atmosphere of tales like "At the Mountains of Madness", "The Dunwich Horror", "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" and, of course, "The Call of Cthulhu". Whether you're a Lovecraft fan, or just searching for the right excuse to discover the legend - these are stories you have to experience.

Heed the call of Cthulhu in Shadow of the Comet and Prisoner of Ice, available now - DRM-free on GOG.com!

PhilD: At first I was really excitied!... and then I saw that they require 256mb vram.
Any chance they'll work with a pitiful 128mb vram? :)
At first when I saw your post, I thought it was just the minimum RAM that GOG quote, and then I saw the gamecard actually does state 256mb of video ram! That has surely got to be a mistake as both games run through DOSBox.

Hopefully this bump might result in someone being able to answer this for sure. If not, I would contact support to get a definite answer.
Wow, what a great release ! Two actually :) I just came back from vacation and find this. I really liked Shadow of the Comet (but I'm not sure I'll try to beat it without a walkthrough) and always wanted to play Prisoner of Ice. Wishlisted for now but I'll definitely buy them later.

YaTEdiGo: It has the bug for everyone and every OS?

Eniena: I might have jumped the gun in saying the game is damaged. I decided to get the game after all and I've had no problems saving... yet.

Either the bug's been fixed or I haven't encountered it yet. So far it's been a pleasant, no crash experience like the time I played the game straight off the CD-ROM.
This bug occurred in the Mac version and has been fixed as of today and the updated Mac version is available offline as well as via GOG Galaxy :)

Oh and we snuck in the Brazilian-Portuguese translation as provided to us by Karnak1 :)
Does anyone know if there is anything special about the Prima strategy guide for Prisoner of Ice? I've been getting into collecting old strategy guides and on a whim listed them by price on Amazon (US), and found a used copy on the marketplace selling for over $5000!

Of course, there's a lot of wonkiness when it comes to Amazon sales, but all other places where the book was being sold were between $700 - $1000, including sellers from Amazon UK! So, I'm really interested to know how this Prima guide came to be so valuable.
I finally picked these two titles during a sale. These are to play games!
Neat. I actually have Shadow of the Comet on CD, but I've never gotten around to playing it. Is it good?

If you're into Horror stuff, yes. The interface is shit, but the plot is amazing.

It gets even better if you don't know anything about Lovecraft's stuff.
