BlueKronos: Very interesting release, saw it on Steam a while ago and thought it looked good there too. While I enjoy roguelikes one thing I don't care for is the lack of objectives so there is no 'winning' in many of them. Sounds like that's not an issue here, just hoping the gameplay will be good. Anyone have some good links to let's play videos of this one?

final_option: Not a Let's Play per se, but it gives you a good first impression I think: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Zh30kl6nwY
Thanks that gave me a much better idea of the game!

Glad to see that you found it useful :)

JudasIscariot: I played the game all the way through and I did not have a problem :)
Thanks, after watching the TotalBiscuit WTF video, I got a better idea of how it plays. I didn't have an issue with keeping track of the player sprite, though in one boss fight when there was a bunch of enemies, particle effects, etc., the sprite was obscured. I think I will give the demo a try.

jackster79: Sweet! You are almost half-way there now... :-)
Nope :P
I took your "advice" and tried to add to my wishlist (spent two days browsing the catalog), but I stalled at 14 games.
Got into this last night and quite enjoyed it. The graphics are well done in my opinion, stylistically familiar to a particular subgenre of pixel art but pleasingly done. There is a lot of character in the tiny sprites, and the environments looks good without being cluttered. And the music is very good.

Probably the biggest downside so far is the same one with most games incorporating permadeath. Namely, you will be seeing a lot of the first level, and geometrically less frequently seeing each of the following ones. Rogue Legacy overcame this by letting your experience convey, so that you could bash through the earlier levels more quickly in subsequent plays. Here that will only happen because you are getting better at the game. You do unlock new characters at certain points however, which does help keep even the early levels fresh.

Also, the difficulty curve seems slightly steep. Every time I made it to a new level I was obliterated very quickly the first few times. Eventually I got good enough to get to the third level, where I was summarily destroyed in seconds again. That marked the end of the night's play. But I will be coming back to it, so perhaps the level of challenge is not a bad thing.
This is seriously one of THE best games ever made. I had no idea how much fun I would have, both by myself, and online with friends. WOW. Just, WOW. So challenging, and so addicting. I have to make myself stop. There hasn't been a game that has done that to me for a long time. The timing of your weapons is one of the keys to making this so difficult and so rewarding. When you execute a perfectly timed weapon combo, and then restart the combo again in perfect timing with yourself; a thing of beauty. I would love to have this game develop different sub-categories or, campaigns, where you could choose to take on the spaceship hijacker, or choose to take on the planet overlord, or choose to take on the subterrainean goo boss. Each with their own group of levels. Love this game.
Played it for 1000+ hours on steam.
Infact it's the only game installed via steam.
Cool game, but crashes miserably after 5 minutes of play. The problem seems to be only existing with the gog version, based on the devs forum. Please find a solution, I'd hate to ask for a refund for somehting with such potential

GoG is contacting the dev for a stable build. You can wait or ask for a refund from support. You could send a ticket to support and then wait in order to be eligible for the refund in case the dev takes a long time to fix it. (I suspect GoG would still refund it even after the refund period expires because this is a known issue - but better safe than sorry).
I have the same problem! I am gonna probably ask refund for this. And just buy it on steam
