Puzzles from another planet.

Reah: Face the Unknown and Schizm: Mysterious Journey are now available DRM-free on GOG.com with a 15% launch discount until October 26, 12PM UTC.
Two classic first-person adventure games in the vein of Myst. As a lone visitor upon alien planets, where majestic structures and strange artifacts abound, your mission is to explore, solve, and ultimately understand their secrets.

In Reah: Face the Unknown, you're an ambitious journalist whose eagerness for the ultimate scoop gets him stranded on a distant planet, with a malfunctioning portal behind him and an awe-inspiring alien city in front of him.
Schizm: Mysterious Journeys is a futuristic tale of two daring pilots who must search for a missing team of scientists amidst tough puzzles and breathtaking, floating scenery.
I am considering Rhea: Face the Unknown purely for its music.

SirPrimalform: Unless they had Linux ports back in the day, not sure who you're expecting to port them now...

ciemnogrodzianin: The same person who ported old classics (e.g. the whole Forgotten Realms collections)? I know that it's more complicated for games, which are not from DOS era (not sure about these), but it's still possible and I suppose it's sometimes a matter of good will only.

A lot of OSX- and Linux-ported games available here were Windows-only in a day of premiere.
Nobody ported those, they're running in a DOS emulator. It's just as complicated to port DOS games, they just don't need to since they can use DOSBox.

1. Emulation is not porting.
2. There is no workable Windows equivalent to DOSBox.
3. Which games?

Grargar: Such as?
Looking at this list - you may be right that the only titles, which have got Linux support are based on DosBox. Before I was thinking mostly about TopWare's games (Two Worlds, Jack Orlando, Knights & Merchants, Earth 21xx strategies), which received Linux support recently, but after small research I must admit that it's rather exception to a rule.

Ad 1. Technically you're right, but for an end user there is no difference between emulating, porting or using any other trick to provide "native Linux installer" experience.

Ad 2. I'm aware of that.

Ad "Nobody" & 3. Please, look at my comment above.

Please, note efforts made by (e.g.) adamhm, who provides nice scripts based on Wine for many GOG games. He shows that it's relatively small effort (i.e. smaller then summed up efforts of all users trying to play on Linux) and low risk to provide nicely packed Linux installer - and it doesn't matter what's behind the script as far as it works properly.

Grargar: It's easy to port a DOS-era game thanks to DOSBox. There is no such equivalent for Windows-only games, which makes Wine the only option. An option that GOG is avoiding using for one reason or another.
According to a post by His Penguinity somewhere in one of the sub-forums this is do to lack of interest. Presumably dev/publisher interest.

But this entire discussion sprang from you saying that these games probably wouldn't work with WINE and requesting ports instead.

No, I have never said it "would not work". I said it may cause problems, which may be resolved once and for all users by delivering just working Linux installer based on properly configured Wine or sth like that.

Well either it causes problems or it doesn't. If it does, then what would you expect GOG to do about it? If it doesn't, what's the point in making a Linux installer?

It's just easier to install out-of-the-oox, don't you think? I've played some games, which worked fine under Wine, but took me 10-100 minutes to activate a proper libraries/options, I'm just a casual Linux user. It just would be nice to spend that time for gaming.
Just a heads up. I just got note (and checked it myself) that the subtitles in Schizm for the German, French, Italian and Spanish (you can find a complaint about missing Spanish subs in the Schizm forum as well) version of the games are not shown at the moment. I found out that the reason for this is that the required subtitle files are not complete (you can open them in notepad and check them) so only the menus are translated at the moment. I already sent a mail to support and I really hope this will be fixed soon.
Where's Schizm II at?

Wikipedia lists it as published by The Adventure Company rather than LK Avalon, does this mean that THQ Nordic currently holds the publishing rights for that one?

EDIT: This list seems to think so (it appears under the title Mysterious Journey II instead) although it is obviously wikipedia, so might not be true.
