Choose from four stories, in any order, and discover how they intertwine in this turn-based RPG – Quartet is now available on GOG!

A series of train robberies leads to evidence of a government conspiracy. A mysterious deck of cards gives a young girl a vision of another world. A fleet of deadly airships burns a path across the Imperial frontier. The world’s unlikeliest hero manifests tremendous magical power. These stories intertwine in the world of Quartet. Before it is all over, the eight heroes will uncover how a secret, centuries-old conflict literally reshaped the world. Then they will have their own decision to make about the destiny of magic.

Now on GOG!

Breja: I won't lie, having a hippo in your party is kinda cool... but not cool enough to offset these NES graphics and deformed anime characters.

seednx: Nothing looks like NES. If NES could do this there wouldn't have been a SNES.
NES, SNES, potato, spotato. I'm a PC gamer, it's all the same to me. It's the same style, just technically improved I guess, but it's the style I dislike, not the number of bits.

It's not the same style at all. That's like saying C64 games were the same style as Amiga games. Being a PC gamer doesn't excuse gross ignorance.

Quick comparison.
(The really thorough comparison it refers to.)

Anyway, what concerns me is that the devs seem too focused on the swapping mechanic and fear the game will end up basically requiring to keep swapping all the time in each fight, which will get tedious in itself and be even worse if it's at the expense of any other tactics or other gameplay elements.

Yes it is. The same kind of world view, the same squat bobblehead characters. Just not in 8-bits.

Anyway, there's no need to get pissy.
I don't have a problem with the font (tho a normal font option is always appreciated) but the dialogue boxes are way, waaay too wide to read comfortable, the UI in general would benefit from being smaller
One thing I probably should have asked earlier:

* How cutscene heavy is this game?

Not that you can usually trust them, but GOG marked "story rich" tag. And the description *sounds* to me like it'll be heavy on them. I'll probably begin the game next weekend since I have guests this one.

It's really not, but sure, let's just call anything that even vaguely resembles Final Fantasy "NES," because words don't mean anything I guess.
Will the Linux version be made available to GOG users the same way it is on Steam?

ReynardFox: If there's one thing that immediately ruins pixel art games for me it's when the assets are not running in uniform resolution, so this game using a low resolution font actually makes me significantly more interested.
There's also good stylized typefaces that are still readable. Heck, I downloaded a whole massive collection of ancient computer "typefaces" that work well within the ideals of legibility and visual scale. As for this typeface featured in the game? I'd need to see if it passes the IliL oO0 test. I myself prefer a good serif for that reason, but a good pixel bitmap font does that by need. (You only have 16 by 8 pixels, good luck.)

I'm more concerned about Alexandria, whose design screams, "I am someone's special OC!" as their clothes and design starkly contrast everything else. Wouldn't look out of place in a Shantae, though.

At times like this I'm thankful to games like Shining Force that featured individual battle animations.

There's a decent number of them, but they're not particularly long or overly wordy. Every one is there to push the story or characters forward in a meaningful way.

We'll get to it eventually, but almost certainly not before the 1.2 release. Builds across all platforms and storefronts currently require a lot of clicks and waiting, and are over an hour for each branch; we have two branches going at once right now which is particularly painful.

Each character starts in a different country; Alexandra's has a bit more technology available to them than the others for story reasons, and that (along with her character background) did/does influence her character design a bit.

Good to hear that you at least tried not to go overboard with cutscenes; probably my biggest complaint with many JRPGs (including the Final Fantasy series) is the excessive amount of cutscenes, many quite lengthy (one in FF5 that takes 7 minutes for a speedrunner to get past, for example)).

Also, if you're the developer of the game, you can get a special developer account where your posts are yellow.

(By the way, I'm also working on an RPG, but it's quite different, and I believe hippos wouldn't fit in the setting.)
