It's a modern Stone Age game!

Prehistorik & Prehistorik 2, the two greatest platformers from a rather different time, are available now for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com!

Prehistorik and Prehistorik 2 are a legendary duo of caveman-related platformers, where all manner of rock and dinosaur things are welcome (encouraged even) to squash you, break you, and pretty much ruin your day. As a friendly neighborhood neanderthal with a large stick and grumbling stomach, your job is to continue moving to your left while clubbing wild creatures and collecting food items to feed your tribe. Simple enough. Back in its day, the platforming and puzzle mechanics were incredibly well received, transforming the game and its sequel into an instant classic among younger gamers. If you're looking for a bit of childhood nostalgia, or if just in the mood for a blast from a distant past, this is your chance to experience the games once again in all of their DOS glory.

both games are master pieces of the 2D- platform genre on DOS well maybe just only the 2nd is a masterpiece but I love the first one too.

Many people hates Titus just for Superman 64 but here is the truth Titus power

Fever_Discordia: Wow, apparently Interplay should own all of Titus' old rights but it looks like this is the first thing they've actually decided to do something with...
Still, not a huge amount of 'must have' classics on the list, looking at it:

Be good if they do. I loved Quik as a kid. Hopefully this opens the door for it to become avaliable on GOG.

IAmSinistar: Maybe it is EGA mode.

timppu: Mobygames seems to show only EGA pictures, so maybe it had only EGA graphics then. Yeah, in those cases I always preferred Amiga graphics. To me there isn't much of "PC gaming" before VGA and sound cards, I just didn't generally find CGA/EGA/beeper generation PC games interesting (mainly in the 80s I guess).

That is not to say that many times Amiga games could look better than their VGA counterpart. Lethal Weapon is one such game. The PC VGA version looks quite good and scrolls smoothly, but the Amiga version does have some extra graphical effects not present in the PC version (I recall at least related to the water).

Speedball 2 Amiga scrolls more smoothly than the PC VGA version, but I recall they otherwise looked quite identical.
you had amiga aswell?

lateron i bought the AMIGA cd32 when it was available
Nice one, GOG! A true prehistoric release! :)

OhmyGodohmyGodohmyGodohmyGodohmyGod!!! Prehistorik was the very first PC game I ever played! And its sequel was one of my favorite platformers of all time! They're finally here, I can't believe it!
Stupid friggin' Witcher 3. I totally missed this epic release because of it. You know, GOG, you could really leave SOME space for the announcements on the frontpage. Every time you make a big sale or something that covers up the entire screen on the frontpage I notoriously miss all the announcements. Please stop doing that!
OMG ❤
finally
Finally, Good Old Game! I played first Prehistorik on my Robotron!:-)

Dear GOG team,

I'm currently having issues with this game. I am a Windows 10 user and having problems starting the game. The screen resolution changes and comes up with black screen. The game simply freezees and when I hit CTRL+Alt+Del I can only return to Windows after choosing restart computer option.

Can you please advise on how to get the game working again? Thank you.

Since Prehistorik games are really old and use Dosbox, maybe your monitor doesn't support resolution they run in. You could also try changing output mode (surface, overlay, opengl and so on) in Dosbox settings.

Anyway, those are only my guesses. You can contact support about your problem with Prehistorik games using this form: https://www.gog.com/support/contact/technical_issues_with_games/prehistorik_12

Assuming somebody else doesn't help you here, try messing with some settings "DOSBox Configuration" application settings (Start Menu > "GOG.com" > *game* > "DOSBox Configuration"), like perhaps the Graphic Mode or - under Advanced Settings - Window Resolution.

If that doesn't help, contact Support.
Thanks everyone for sharing your solutions. I'll try them right now.

This is an easy issue that I faced (it's more of that I wanted to force my desktop's resolution, but this might solve your issue, too).
First, you need to get into the games directory.
Usually it'll be stored in a folder with the game's name under "[system drive]:\GOG Games\[game name]"
That is unless you have GOG Galaxy, and installed using that, then it'll be at "[Galaxy install directory]\Games\[game name]"

Go in there, and there should be a config file named "dosbox[game name without spaces].conf"
What you're looking for is a line that has this text "fullresolution=desktop"
Change the value of "fullresolution" from it's original value of "desktop" to "[width]x[height]" and it should force that resolution in full screen.

If the resolution doesn't look quite right, then there's another line you can change that might help.
In the same document look for a line that says "aspect=false". This corrects the aspect ratio in DOSbox.
You can try setting the "aspect" value to "true" if things don't look right for you.

This is already detailed in the Dosbox configuration files, and applies to every DOSbox-based game here.
