UCrest: From some of the screenshots, I can see that the title has something of Mario Bros about it. Which brings back great childhood memories.
SultanOfSuave: That's no coincidence, the developers are very open regarding their inspirations, as stated on the store page. Frankly, with some of the font design, character designs and their implementations, and just stylistically overall - some of the inspirations are very direct!
Well, it's quite a risky decision considering how protective Nintendo is of its franchises (and characters).
Something quite curious and amusing happened in Costa Rica. Here, we call mini-supermarkets “Super”.
As a general rule, these shops are usually given names of people, characters (from television series or films) or places (neighbourhoods).
So, someone came up with the idea of naming a mini-supermarket “Super Mario”. That was enough for Nintendo to sue the owner of the shop for trademark infringement. Or at least that's what the story (now a legend).
For those who are wondering... Nintendo lost the legal battle against the owner of the commercial property because his name was Mario (a proper name). In addition, the mini-supermarket began operations in the mid-1970s under the same name (Super Mario). Therefore, the Japanese company's claim was not legally valid in the country... xD
Hopefully, the development team will not encounter any problems and we will be able to enjoy the title without any issues.
Have a great day. =)
