tinyE: Somehow I don't think we should be joking about the mass murder of four million people so I'm going to get out of this thread.
Jews weren't the only people massacred during WW2. People seem to forget this.

Four million is a bit low...current estimates of Jews killed by the Nazis are between 5 and 6 million (plus millions of non-Jews, like the 3 million Soviet pows starved to death by the Germans in 1941).
But in this case I actually agree with you...sad how this thread developed.

Or in reprisals after WW2.

If anything, maybe it will serve to remind people of how much info they're putting out there on the internet. Guessing that it's simply putting into game form the things that our benevolent masters can / already do.

On the game itself, will read some reviews and decide from there.

Midoryu: From the source:
"After all, England now has more security cameras aimed at its population than any other country on earth, with 1.5 million police cameras installed by authorities in urban environs. Unfortunately the posters were not a hoax, but part of an official anti-crime campaign mounted by the Metropolitan Police and London's mass transit provider, the CCTV."

It seems privacy advocates don't need to create horror scenarios in order to scare people, reality has enough of that in store, already.
If that's not enough, there's always PRISM, The Five Eyes, and ECHELON :)

darthspudius: So it is a game representation of how the EU 'rule' our lands? Bonus achievements for jailing people for hate speech?
Nope, that's how COUNTRIES rule their people.
avatar
tinyE: Is that an actual advertisement for public transit?

I can't imagine what they were going for there. :P

JudasIscariot: One source says that poster was an official London transport poster
Yes, quite disturbing.
This Orwell game has a distinct British feel to it, PM Blaine or was it Blair?
The game ticks the right boxes for me.
Not over-the-top in-your-face fascism, but a composed aide teaching you the ropes.
Let's not forget the warning about the obligation to be conscious, objective and considerate; realising that you can have a profound influence on people's life and that you should not abuse the system.
Somehow, this makes it more realistic and therefore more oppressive..
The art-style is striking and modern. I just hope there are enough choices available through the game ...

That smiley kind of makes it feel weird. Like it is saying:
"Don't worry, pal. They haven't taken away our other toys, yet."

The real problem here is:
PRISM, SIGINT and the Five Eyes "partnership" are massive projects, but they are American ones.

Having an European country, if the UK still regards itself as such, that is pushing totalitarian schemes in a huge manner is more thought provoking, in my opinion. Granted, the UK's secret service pushed for limitless surveillance for a long time now and even more than their US allies. Still, most people, at least in Germany, believe that it's only the NSA and only the United States that bent the rules beyond any recognition. (Read: Because rules barely even exist and enforcement is nowhere to be guaranteed.)

The UK belonged to the European Union for a long time and it is located directly at its door step:
To think they have such a different approach to some of the core ideals that were, at least officially, shared across the EU is more difficult to grasp, I think.

In short:
Most people didn't expect different from the USA, because they "fight terrorists" and re-enact themselves as overly patriotic folk all the time. Also, they brought war to countries across the globe. They need to be more cautious and defend themselves. In a kind of way...

The UK on the other hand doesn't seem that involved, it makes little sense for them to require that kind of surveillance network or the need to neglect basic rights like freedom of the press or data protection law without any kind of public oversight.

Heyho.

Midoryu

PS: I'm sorry if this appears off-topic, but looking at the game this thread belongs to, I honestly don't think, it really is.

Zoidberg: Nope, that's how COUNTRIES rule their people.
update: countries dont really rule their people anymore since EEC was converted to EU.
Many people mixup EU and Europe, and then many people start saying dumb things like "Europe" is bad........
while Europe itself is great.

Europe :

Europe is a continent that comprises the westernmost part of Eurasia. Europe is bordered by the Arctic Ocean to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, and the Mediterranean Sea to the south.

EU:

The European Union is a political and economic union of 28 member states that are located primarily in Europe. It has an area of 4,475,757 km², and an estimated population of over 510 million

Political is their main goal, and the trade is a coverup,
get as many countries to create a sort of EUSA ( in the best case) or something worse.

The fun thing is , 99% of all this can be found on the internet, there are tons of posts and dozens of newssites who view it through a real glass and not through pinkglassess.

As for Uk after they have left EU, they will be great after a small while UK is strong (there are some weaker parts but these will turn around in time).

Seems there are countries who even might want to create a own block in Europe, its all on the net just google and all the information is there.

morolf: Hmm, maybe this forum actually does need some moderation.
As for that youtube video, the guy who uploaded it seems to be a genuine Nazi. If I had a Youtube account I'd actually be tempted to report his videos.
I just did. Guys like this are scum (actually I don't want to offend the scum - they are far worse) and people making jokes about it are not much better.

Anyway: 99% of the postings here are political. Does someone have anything to say about the actual game? Gameplay, goal, imersion ect.?

Well, if I said anything about the game play I may spoil the story :P

Most of it involves reading, analyzing the info available, collecting evidence, and then taking action based on that.
