IFW: In the GOG release it's at:
.\TheObserver\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\

Regardless, the game should not just crash during booting :)
I guess less patient users would have got the game refunded... fingers crossed it was worth it!

groze: "Less patient users" would have contacted GOG Support to get the refund and I'm pretty sure the folks at GOG Support would have tried everything -- including this fix listed here -- to get the game running. If you download a GOG game and GOG manages to get the game running on your system, you're not entitled to any refund.
I think you misunderstood the post.
I have no intention whatsoever to refund the game, in fact I am quite excited to play it :)

However, it does have a show stopper bug that the devs should be aware of, and also players should know how to work around that for the time being.
Hence i posted what the bug is, and how to fix it.
Hopefully the devs will read it, or GOG will contact them.
Glad this game made it here...

fronzelneekburm: I'm enjoying this game so far, but, boy, did they go overboard with the filters on this or what? Even with all details set to low - couldn't play it any other way on my lame-ass laptop - this game still looks like it consists of 90% post processing and 10% actual graphics. It's kind of absurd: You can turn off motion blur altogether and yet they included a filter that will fill your screen with obscene amounts of static every time you even slightly move your head. Everything just disappears behind a murky haze of post processing and static. I just wish there was a way to remove all those filters entirely, I could probably get a decent framerate too. Not complaining about it, mind you, I'm pleasantly surprised this game runs on my laptop at all. But I'd still like to see what this game has to offer in terms of visuals once you strip away all the noise.
Well there's this fix for removing chromatic aberration and depth of field: http://steamcommunity.com/app/514900/discussions/0/1471968797464104506/ . Some people say it looks a lot better that way.
Very good review here.

Did turn off motion blur in the options and put lens flares to minimum so the "ghosting" of light is tuned down. Kind of want a setting for general bloom in the options, but as for completely disabling filters, I don't think you want to do that.
Filters are not bad, it's just ramping up the filters to maximum (which many game devs do nowadays) is bad.
Well OK, there is one filter which is bad in general: Motion blur.

Thanks! Contrary to what I expected, turning off some of the various filters didn't seem to have any impact on the performance, but it did get rid of that annoying static when you turn your head. So, thanks again!

No worries, glad I could help.
When you're seeing static I think it's time to take Synchrozine.

I love this game. Rutger jacks in to every fucked up port he can find, nearly dead people, drugged people, etc.. if cats had jacks he would plug it! ;)

UPDATE: OK, I'm impressed. Someone pay this studio to do exactly THIS and add more gameplay elements and we would have a true System Shock 2 killer. I respect what the audio staff has done here.

UPDATE2: woweee. This and Night In The Woods are tied for GOTY2017 for me. It's hard to make up my mind.
