Death becomes you.

NECROPOLIS, a merciless action/roguelite where death is its own reward, is available now for single-player gameplay on Windows, DRM-free on GOG.com!

Who doesn't enjoy a spectacular, brutal, educational death? Especially if it's permanent, which means all your hard-earned or crafted gear, your elixirs, and any trust you had in your friends now lie shattered on the floor of an accursed, constantly-shifting dungeon.
But it also means that you get to start fresh, armed with more knowledge, better-honed skills, new tools, and unlockable abilities. So you've got no excuse if you die again. And again. And again. And one time after that. Then two more. Yes that's it, you're getting the hang of this now.

The GOG.com release currently supports single-player mode and offline functionality on Windows. OS X support, as well as GOG Galaxy support for achievements & multiplayer is coming in the near future. Stay tuned for updates from GOG.com and Harebrained Schemes.

It's kind of unclear to me what this game is trying to achieve. The art style is relatively simple, which you'd expect to be meant to make it easier to produce more content, but instead there's little variety and no depth to the mechanics. What's the point then of procedural levels when each one always plays the same? The edge I was expecting it to have over its compatriots is how randomly generated combinations of different enemy types would lead to unexpected challenges based on their behaviour that you'd have to adapt to, but you can beat almost everything in the same manner so there's none of that either. It's all the downsides of procedural design without capatalising on its strengths. As it is, the game looks blatantly unfinished, especially at this price, and needing to buy expansions in the future to see it fleshed out beyond this is a bad deal.

I've read good things about , so those who like the real-time action in combination with procedural levels might want to take a look at that. If you're just looking for a fresh little game with procedural gameplay, get [url=https://www.gog.com/game/renowned_explorers] Renowned Explorers instead. It's very different from this, but good and might have flown under people's radar.

I don't think that's what they trying to achieve since they're commercialised it (for a steep price), but to me, it seems more a like a pretty tech demo rather than a full-fledged game. With expansions and improvements, I have no doubt it could become good, but if you have to pay even more to get what you should have got, I don't think it's going to happen.

Pretty much that, yeah. If this had been their proof concept for a kickstarter it would have been really promising, but the current product simple isn't worth what they're asking for it. I'm not sure if we'll ever see what it could have been either because reactions so far seem decidedly negative, so it's likely it'll soon see a sharp drop-off in sales.
I really hope multiplayer Actually gets added soon as was stated in the original post. Its lacking is literally the only reason I haven't bought this game yet despite the bad reviews it has received.

Like, why not offer direct connect option by IP/DNS? It would allow easy cross-play with Steam users too.
