deonast: Now when will I get time to play it.
Right now.

And spreat the word, for how good it is, the game doesn't get nearly enough attention.

No not right now. I had only 3.5 hours ish sleep last night and I would like to try and get closer to 5 tonight so I can go out without falling a sleep. When you look tired in bars the bouncers think you are drunk and want to throw you out.

Just do what I do, forget bars and play Lichdom!

EBToriginal: Another generic subpar stinker for the catalogue.
Doesn't look all that generic.

'Cause it's not, I've never played anything quite like it and boy, have I played a lot of games in my life. Just ignore the troll I'd say.

Do point me to games with at least similar mechanics. I love the game, so I'm intriqued.

Crosmando: This game kinda epitomizes what I dislike about magic in video games - spells are always overwhelmingly "shooting" ones, interestingly enough that's what annoyed me about magic in Harry Potter - practically all spells (except potions) where about shooting bad something at an enemy.

I'd love a game where magic is actually a utility to solve problems, come up to a massive bottomless chasm in a dungeon: Use levitation spell to pass. Find a farmer whose crops have failed and his family are starving - use a druid/nature spell to make his crops grow.

You'd think in a world where magic is commonplace that the wizards would come up with spells to make life easier, not just more ways to kill things.
Risen has plenty of utility spells, including Levitation to cross over chasms and reach otherwise unreachable places, transformation spells that let you turn into a tiny creature so you can fit through the crack in a wall, spells that unlock chests, spells that let you trigger out of reach levers to raise gates or disable traps, etc etc.

I'd say the closest is Dark Messiah of M&M, playing a mage ( but with less shielding/dodging and more kicking :p).
But yeah I can't think of many alternatives to this game, unless you ignore the spellcasting and crafting system and see it as just another linear FPS.

Tbh, I only bought it because I love playing mages in games, and wasn't expecting much given some of the reviews, but I was actually pleasantly surprised. It's pretty fun so far, even if I'm not a fan of having limited options at the start, I really wish they'd just enable all mechanics and give you all sigils right away.

Yeah, Dark Messiah would be an obvious comparison, but even that is a far cry from what Lichdom actually is. I wouldn't even really call the game a first person shooter as the skillset you use in a usual shooter is quite a bit different from the skillset you use to play Lichdom (it's a much slower experience with a lot less importance put on precise and fast aiming). It is linear tho. One of my major complaints.

Yeah, the beginning is quite slow. However, if I recall the patch notes correclty, after you unlock fire, ice and kinesis, you will then get a full list of sigils to pick from. It used to be that you only ever got 2 to choose from. I can't verify whether I understood the patch notes correctly as I am planning on replaying the game when I get a new GPU, not trying it now quite yet.

Damn! just found out about it :(
Hmmm this game really makes my video card work hard and run hot!

edit: Seems if i do vsync Lock-30 my card runs a bit cooler, but the framerate has a much larger hit than i expected. Think i'll mess with the settings when i'm not in a boss fight...
