Vythonaut: What I find most disconcerting is that this DLC "thing" became a common practice, even among indie devs.

Aspyr-Blair: We actually never intended for this DLC to happen. Originally, we were going to do a free update that had a few bonus rooms (similar to our Halloween room with the ouija board). Once we all sat down to brainstorm the content however, we all got carried away with the thought of experiencing the house from a completely different perspective. The daughter was a perfect way to explore that.

Inheritance is a very different experience than the base game. In many ways, its less scary but far more disturbing.
So, I'm one of the early buyers of the game (on Steam) paid full price for it and now, to access the DLC, I need to pay 5€ more. I mean, it would be ok if not people who get the Masterpiece edition now will only pay 1€ for the DLC, considering base game is 13€ on Steam while the Masterpiece edition is 14. It's not really a good thing to do in my opinion.
Layers of Fear is one of the best, most original games I played this year, I instabought it when it came to GOG (with a simultaneous store release, even!), so I obviously instantly bought this expansion as well, and I'm going to give it a go as soon as I'm done typing this.

Thanks, GOG, bloober and Aspyr for this!

Aspyr-Blair: ...
Still hoping Aspyr brings their ports and content to GOG. :) (especially the Knights of the Old Republic II changes)
I did enjoy Layers of Fear, but it didn't handhold with regards to the story, it was more hints at the past. My assumption <spoilers> was that the painter killed his burns-disfigured wife and their child (or the child died through neglect), hence being haunted and cursed by their ghosts. Or that he was dead, and was trapped in limbo with them. If this DLC carries on the story from the daughter's perspective she must have survived, which leaves me confused about what happened in the game I played. :-)
Hmm...
Since the Dev doesn't seem to be active here...

Does anyone have a view on which should be played first: the DLC or the original?

EDIT: Got a reply on Twitter. They say Original first.

Apologies for the delay here! I wasnt getting email notifications of forum activity, and I've been in Germany for GamesCom.

Yes, you should definitely play the base game first, so that you'll have an understanding of context for the DLC story.
