Yeiiow: I loved Infested Planet, and i would definitely pay good cash for a real expansion or a sequel, but that little update being sold for over 5 bucks is just ridiculous and leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

NOT BUYING!
It's not 5 bucks right now.

Commander powers can be used by everyone in weekly challenges.
Not sure if those are in the GOG version though. :P

Cyraxpt: More like a rts-lite mixtured with some horde mode, there's hives around the map constantly spawning enemies where you only get a small amount of resources to build defenses, buy new troops (really limited) and some upgrades, the game gets harder everytime you manage to destroy one of the targets so you kind of have to manage what order to destroy the hives and how to attack them.
Thing is, you can grind some levels (you get cash to purchase stuff outside of the levels like one time power ups) otherwise the game is really hard.

Dunno, not that the game is bad but i seriously don't feel like going back to it, i guess it's one of those where you play one mission at the time and then play something else...
Thanks for the info! The game seems similar to "Crimsonland" that's also on GOG.

Not really, Crimsonland is a twin stick shooter, Infested Planet is more of an RTS.

Oh that's right. From what I've read, it seems Crimsonland would be better than Infested Planet.

It costs 1.24$ at the moment.
In principle, I don't like 24-hour sales because they're so easy for fans to miss if they don't happen to be online checking the site that day. And maybe $5 sounds like a bit much for the amount of content being offered here...

But damn, that's a nice discount. Price right now seems fair to me. Bought. Thanks, Rocket Bear!
Anybody else have an issue with the DLC not showing? I updated the base game first, then bought the DLC. Ironman mode shows locked and I don't see anything different in main campaign. Just wondering if it's just me. The DLC files are in the game folder, so I don't know what else to do.

Edit: I uninstalled both and redownloaded, installed, and the DLC seems to be there now.

amok: Hey, another game I got a few months ago and recently finished...
avatar
timppu: You think that's bad? I've got and finished many GOG games years, even decades, ago! For instance Outlaws that GOG released only recently.
hehe. and there is no difference at all in exchanging old discs with new digital downloads, and, lets say, a new digital (drm free) download with umm.... a new digital (drm free) download....

That still doesn't change the fact that I finished Outlaws already like two decades ago. I must remember to give a snarky comment whenever GOG dares to release some old game I already own and I've already played, just so show how cool I am, right? :)

By the way, this page says this DLC was released on Steam on 24th of April 2015 (same day as on GOG.com), so were you playing this DLC as an alpha version many months ago? The base game (Infested Planet) appeared on GOG half a year ago as far as I could tell.

Were you possibly confused in thinking that GOG released the base game only now, along with this new DLC?

i possibly am :)
Just a short notice. If you wan't to play the new dlc you need to have the latest version of the game installed. So you have to uninstall the old version and install the new one (updated on 24th) and install the dlc and then the addtional ironman mode and other features will work.
B
ought this game some time ago and really enjoyed it, but I won´t support such small content even at this price (discount). Devs, why not put a bit more effort and do a proper dlc or expansion... Wasted opportunity

From what I've played, I enjoyed Infested Planet a heck of a lot more. But frankly, the two aren't really comparable at all (and I prefer my strategy games).

One is a twin-stick shooter action game focussed on a single dude and no real strategy beyond selecting perks and shooting lots.

Infested Planet is a squad level tactical game that's ALL about your strategy. It's one of the only strategy games I've played that's focussed to moment tactical decision making, with a constant back-and-forth as you try to gain the advantage over the alien swarms. Where other RTS's tend to get easier as you go into a map, here it shifts around a lot. The further in a map you get, the more mutations come into play and the more of the hives tend to activate to try and stop you. You gain additional resources to use per hive taken, but even that last batch of hives can be hefty to take down.

Generally I'd describe it as having to constantly switch-up holding the line to keep the aliens from breaking through, and finding areas and switching tactics to break through in other areas. You'll frequently be changing the makeup of your squadies mid-mission to adapt to what's coming at you and what you're trying to do.
How nice that the DLC arrived. Somehow I completely missed the sale, since it apparently fell outside the time I normally expect GOG to release things. So onto the list it goes, since I'm a bit pissed I missed the chance.
