Dear Community,

Thank you for your patience and for giving us the time to investigate the release of HITMAN GOTY on GOG. As promised, we’re getting back to you with updates.

We're still in dialogue with IO Interactive about this release. Today we have removed HITMAN GOTY from GOG’s catalog – we shouldn’t have released it in its current form, as you’ve pointed out.

We’d like to apologise for the confusion and anger generated by this situation. We’ve let you down and we’d like to thank you for bringing this topic to us – while it was honest to the bone, it shows how passionate you are towards GOG.

We appreciate your feedback and will continue our efforts to improve our communication with you.

Story and bonus missions can be played offline :) For Escalation missions, Elusive Targets or user-created Contracts you will need an online connection.

Dear GOG community!

Thank you for bringing this topic to our attention. We’re looking into it and will be updating you in the coming weeks. In case you have purchased HITMAN and are not satisfied with the released version, you can use your right to refund the game. At the same time, while we’re open for meritful discussion and feedback, we will not tolerate review bombing and will be removing posts that do not follow our review guidelines.

Breja: It's not "review bombing" when the reviews give better information on what is actually locked behind online DRM than the game's store page.
We will not remove reviews like that, only those that are against our review guidelines.

tfishell: Thank you for posting, and I really hope GOG and IOI figures out how to make the majority of the game DRM-free. If not, remove it.

However I feel similar to Breja about the "review bombing".
Rest assured we will only remove reviews that are against our review guidelines.

Abedsbrother: Sounds a purge of all those negative reviews is coming.

If you have a complaint, just refund! But don't leave a negative review, that's review-bombing.

Wtf happened to GOG.
To quote our review guidelines:

Can I write a negative review?

Yes. If you are unsatisfied with the game (e.g. the gameplay, graphics, in-game mechanics and features) you are free to write a review and share your opinion with other GOG users as to why you do not recommend it.

LootHunter: I apologize for interjecting but I think you misunderstand what "review bombing" means. "Review bombing" means posting reviews with a score that is a lot worse (or in rare cases better) than the game actually deserves to punish (or reward) the developer for some action that is not related to the game itself. For example, if a developer makes something with another game, or one of the people from the development team says something on social media.

So, again if players post reviews with an undeserving score because of the developer's actions that aren't related to the game - that's "review bombing". If players post bad reviews of the game because they have a problem with a certain feature of that exact game - that's not bombing, that's actual reviewing. You can argue if this reviewing is objective or not, or if the feature in question is important, but it's not a "review bomb".
What we meant is that we will not tolerate reviews that are against our review guidelines, for example spam reviews (reviews that are not connected to the game itself). We will not be removing negative reviews, and reviews sharing constructive feedback, of course. I hope this clears things up a bit.

When it comes to waiting time for updates, while we understand you wanted to get them as fast as possible, we had to take the necessary time to investigate this matter thoroughly. At the same time, we hope to have reaffirmed you that we'll let you know as soon as we have updates, which we did today.
As the thread has ran its course a long time ago, it is time to close it. General reminder that bumping and necro'ing threads is against our Code of Conduct.
