A retro-styled adventure RPG with an atmosphere just like the classics – Heroine's Quest: The Herald of Ragnarok is available on GOG for free!

Like in many adventure games, you have a world to save, and must use your wit, guile and inventory to puzzle your way through. Like in many roleplaying games, you can customize your character with various classes and skills, and must train yourself in combat to stand a chance against the fierce monsters in your way. Each class has its own solution to the numerous obstacles, where the warrior is the most straightforward to play, the sorceress focuses on smart solutions and finding the right spell for the situation, and the rogue cheats her way through life without getting caught.

The game is designed in the spirit and atmosphere of the classics, and strives to have the same high quality of art, music, and plot. With multiple character classes and several solutions to many puzzles, there are plenty of options for further replayability.

Check this awesome title out!

Moreover, we'd also like to give a shoutout to Tyler, also known as tfishell, a member of our community who (and not for the first time) helped us bring the game to our catalog. The quest to make games last forever is certainly easier with passionate adventures like you!
This is a welcomed free addition, thank you, GOG and Crystal Shard.
insta-redeem :)
Strange that it wasn't already here, but very welcome. The Crystal Shard has a few commercial games too, it would be good to have them here.

I talked to Pieter Simoons, the Dev Appreciation Package is indeed on the way. Please keep your eyes out for it. :)

Thank you for your efforts in bringing this and other games to GOG, tfishell. You're a true "DRM-free" brother and a gift to this community.
Looks like a cool game, awesome freebie.
Wow, they actually added Achievements to a "new" release on GOG that is for a game that is both old and also free. I'm impressed. Good job. Thanks for doing that, GOG and the devs and tfishell.
I enjoyed the game though, as breja said, it can be tedious in places. One important thing to note is that each class can have different solutions required for a problem. You're not just facing all problems with the same solutions... they can vary based on your class.

tfishell: Edit: looks like we're missing the game forum for HQ too
It's there now.

And thank you for your part in making this happen. If this isn't a game and a dev that belongs on GOG, I don't know what is.

And actually nice to see signs of GOG opening up more towards hosting good freeware lately.
(PS: Which may make it a good time to bring The Spirit Engine games back into discussion?)

edit: I guess the problem is the link on the game purchase page doesn't go to that url.

Thanks for the forum info. And thanks for the thanks, you and everyone else who thanked me! ;)

BTW, personally - like Betrayer - I "went after" this game / "kickstarted" the release because it got pretty high on the Community Wishlist (1200+ votes). Unfortunately The Spirit Engine games don't have nearly that many, but you could ask people to vote of course. (I'd suggest being willing to post on the GOG subreddit too and share the suggestion.)
