The Gold-Standard in jRPG combat.

Grandia II Anniversary Edition, a jRPG epic with some of the best combat around, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 25%, weeklong launch discount and full GOG Galaxy support for Achievements!

15 years ago this month, a standalone jRPG sequel premiered on the Dreamcast to amazing critical acclaim and a sudden cult following. By far the best entry in the series, if there's one thing that made Grandia II stand out from the usual crowd, it was the amazing, innovative combat. Whether you're a jRPG veteran, or just vaguely interested in the genre, you'll be happy to find that your run-of-the mill slog through dreaded random encounters is replaced by a combat system so good, they actually made a whole new game around it: Grandia Xtreme. Combined with a wonderful soundtrack and a lengthy storyline, there are few games out there that offer as grand a sense of true adventure, as Grandia II.

The Anniversary Edition introduces an authentic-but-improved experience, controller support, fancy new higher-res graphics and a native Windows experience!

Return to the peak of the Dreamcast era with Grandia II Anniversary Edition, now on GOG.com.
*grumble* ctd after a 10 minute fight with the claws of valmar.
I must admit to being a little surprised there's no real incentive to buying it here on GOG as opposed to Steam - the price is the same at both places, and GOG doesn't have the usual bonus items it usually does.

That aside, I'd like to throw my voice into group saying they would've rather had Grandia -1- as opposed to 2. I don't have anything in particular against 2, I enjoyed it on the Dreamcast - yes, even the English voices; undub is overrated and if there cannot be an option for both, having my native language be the one heard is preferrable.

It's not like anime where you just have to read the text, the Japanese audio with English text disparity is distracting from the game and makes it feel less professional - sorry, it's just a sore point. Did not mean to get off topic.

However, I must admit to being surprised that of all their games, Grandia 2 is the one we got. Lunar had a much larger following from what I recall and Grandia 1 was often regarded as the best in its series. And at $20 no less, for what seems to be a rather rushed port given the reactions/reviews I've read. However, I realize not everyone approves of lowering the price of a 15 year old game...

Insofar as the game itself goes.. I honestly don't remember a lot of it, despite being glued to it for roughly a month or two. The original, on the other hand, I replayed several times throughout the years following my purchase after it came out and was quite emotionally vested in the characters. About all I can remember of the sequel is the talking bird and the convenient love triangle between powerful characters.

Like the ol' Tenchi series in that regard...
I was going to get the Steam version since they are the same, but I bought the GOG version instead. If I got this game from Steam I would need to install Steam on my laptop to play the game. I can install the GOG version and play the game without any game manager. This is why I chose GOG. I have this game for Dreamcast, I got it back when the console was still active. Many hours of enjoyment with that system. Then one day, my Dreamcast stopped reading discs. LONG LIVE DREAMCAST! And I thank the developers of Grandia II for keeping this game alive. Also thank you GOG for alowing me to take this game where ever I go.
Do they include the unmodified version by now?
I'd really like to replace my 2-CD version (that runs on XP) at some point...
