A truly stellar action-RPG from Soldak Entertainment!

Drox Operative, a starship action RPG with warring alien races, fierce space battles, a dynamic, evolving galaxy, and co-op multiplayer, is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux on GOG.com. You can also enhance its already impressive universe with the Invasion of the Ancients expansion! Both are 50% off for the first week.

Drox Operative sends you on a mission to explore a dynamic and evolving galaxy, as a powerful emissary of a long-extinct race that used to reign over the stars. You will discover a unique sector of the galaxy in every game, each time with different enemies to encounter, ship components to upgrade your vessel, quests to complete, and even different alien races to meet. You'll take part in the eternal galactic war between various cosmic factions, and battle hundreds of different enemy starships. Outfit your dreadnought with thousands of components and crew to become the commander of the deadliest (and coolest!) spacecraft in the galaxy!

Prepare for the action-packed space-opera experience of a lifetime - get Drox Operative and its Invasion of the Ancients, today! The 50% off special release promo will last until Tuesday, January 6, at 10:59AM GMT.

tinyE: Just checked out the demo and it is GREAT but a little confusing. The tutorial said the 1st thing I had to do was find another race, so I start looking, and aside from a merchant every other ship I came across started blasting! :P

BTW, love the cargo hold for the player and for all the players ie. Torchlight.

I'm for sure going to have to snag this bad boy. It looks and sounds great. I normally turn the music off but this has a nice Tangerine Dream vibe that when kept minimal makes nice background

OH! And there is "Pause + Action" which helps for folks not really keen on being rushed and/or overwhelmed.
Races are very easy to find. Just explore and you will find planets with a mouth icon. Stop at the planet, click the icon, and voila, you've met a race. ;)

Also, potential spoiler but really just sound advice: in the early stages of the game, be VERY careful when you scan anomalies. Some are wormholes that will send you to parts of the galaxy where you will die in seconds.

I bought this game at release directly from Soldak and I wish there was a way to activate here on GOG.

Anyhow, the game is really a blast and yes you have to make the right decisions or pay a potentially heavy price. You are after all an "operative" that can change the whole complexion of any given sector so the choices you make directly influence the game itself but, what's really cool about it is that simultaneously, the game progresses despite your actions so you are NOT the "center" of this brilliant and somewhat odd universe.
The link in the french version of this news are totally broken. Could you please fix this, Blue Ones ? :)

Edit : In fact, you can't even comment the news in french without finishing in the GOG black hole...

Already got this from the devs back when it first came out, (and not really swimming in money enough to buy it on GOG just for completeness) but just want to say, very chuffed to see this one on GOG. It's an absolute blast that has sucked up a ton of my time, and then the expansion came out and it sucked up a ton more, and I'm still playing. Everyone go buy it right now!
Hey gOg, how about getting the Drox subforum going?

Or, "I looked but I can't find it. Where is it?"

Yeah, been looking for it, too! Normally, when a new game is released, the subforum is there nearly in the same second as the release. I guess that something went wrong with it, or the gogteam isn´t here anymore because of the "end-of-the-year-holidays".

Soooo - we're BOTH going blind! Ha!

Just a nice resource to have when deciding whether or not to buy.
Is it multiplayer or not? The blurb mentions "co-op multiplayer" but the game card only lists Single Player for game modes.
Interesting.
Any comments on the DLC?. - is it worth it? required?. Looking at the base game right now....
I've played this game for about 4-5 hours today, quite decent so far. I liked the screenshots and bought it without checking any reviews or videos which is the same thing I did when I bought SPAZ. But Drox is imho more fun than SPAZ. The spaceship in SPAZ controls like a drunken pregnant duck, in Drox controls aren't an issue at all. Only one problem: I can't ALT + TAB out of the game, does anyone have the same problem or is it just me?

EDIT: figured out I just have to ALT + TAB more aggressively and then it works, weird but ok :)

I'd only recommend the DLC, if, like me, you wind up viciously addicted to the game play and crave more, or, if you found the core game too easy and want a greater challenge. I bought IOTA on release and it made an already challenging game (especially once you get to the higher levels) really nasty, since (obviously) those pesky Ancients are now full in-game factions. Not only that, but you can't make peace with them or ally with them in the same way you can regular factions -- they're out for blood right from the get-go.

Great to finally see this here! How will multiplayer work? I know there's a serial that is required so will GOG provide it if we want to play multiplayer?

Haha, I thought it was just me. Hopefully they will fix that in the sequel.
It's good to see this game finally on GOG. :)

You find the serial number when you look into your library!

Does it have only one serial, or does it have a second one for the DLC?
