This is how a new age of epic fantasy RPGs was spawned.

Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition, which marked the triumphant resurgence of epic party-based RPGs, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com, with a 60% launch discount.

Some RPG enthusiasts enjoy customizing their character and carefully picking their travelling companions based on both their personalities and combat skills. Some enjoy dark, engaging narratives with branching elements and dozens of side-quests. Others just want to hack at giant dragons and demonic hordes. Dragon Age: Origins walked the extra mile, also letting players shape their legendary Grey Warden by playing through their unique backstory. The whirlwind of wild magic, gruesome battles, complex politics, tough moral choices, and dramatic moments that ensued helped cement this epic adventure as one of the most influential ones in recent memory. And that was even before that night when Morrigan approached you with a certain offer...

Gather your party of memorable NPCs and venture against the tides of darkness in Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition, DRM-free on GOG.com.
The 60% launch discount will last until July 21, 12:59 PM UTC.

blotunga: I would re-buy this if it includes the promo items also. Can someone confirm at some point?
It does.
avatar
blotunga: You mean even the Collector's Edition items like Grimoire of the Frozen Wastes? That one is in no other version legally afaik.
It contains all DLCs and all items included in Promotional Items Pack on Origin.

Namur: Fuck...

You just had to do it, didn't you GOG ?

It's sunny out here GOG, 33º, there's like a million, mostly, naked girls walking around the city.

Why do you hate me GOG ? Why ?

Oh, very well, i yield.
Hate? We're just trying to protect you from sunburn >.>

rodrolliv: And to be perfectly clear, it doesn't require any third party authorization in order to get any of the content, does it? Everything is DRM free, correct?
Correct. Logging in is an optional feature.
avatar
Skysect: I am wondering about this too :)
If it isn't included in Promotional Items Pack, then the answer is no.
high rated

dBLOOD: Already have it on Origin, butt Fuck EA!
I'm certain it will help us bring more EA titles here. -_-

skeletonbow: Wow, how slow is your Internet? :( I could download that in 1:40 if the download sustained at my full speed the whole time, or more likely 2 hours. Are you connected to the Internet via 2 tin cans and a string or something? :)

If there's demand for it, GOG might be able to negotiate a FLAC release in the future as they've done for countless other games in the past, although they'll have to ensure they're actually FLAC and not just MP3s converted to FLAC by idiots or sheisters at the publisher. :)

tinyE: Not three months for the download itself, but three months all together. I'd get 10Gb and need to wait a month for the reset, download 10Gb, wait another month, finally grab those last 2 Gb.
Europeland has LTE services that are pay-when-you-want and you can get 36 GB with pre-paid LTE around here for 200 PLN (approx. $50..)

Do you have access to relatively cheap LTE over there?
avatar
tinyE: Isn't that related to mobile phones, cell phones?
But not limited to, you usually get a USB modem and can use it with normal PC / notebook machine

Yes, it is but you can also get LTE for the house too in some countries. You have to be within its coverage area in order to get any use out of it, otherwise you get bumped down to HSPA speeds.

BAZ: Um, can you comment on my first reply? Would be cool to know if the gog version indeed has ALL the dlc and makes no attempts to connect to the 'EA servers'.
I already replied several times - all DLCs + Promotional Items Pack are included, logging to EA account is optional and has no impact on DLC content availability.
avatar
BAZ: Btw, some games, AUTO-attempt to connect to online servers, does gogs version of DAO-UE, make no attempt to auto-connect?

Meaning, basically it is the users option to make the connection attemp?
It cannot auto-connect if you won't provide login details for the first time.
Anyway, to be on even safer side, all online options can be switched off in config tool even before the first launch.
avatar
BAZ: Ok, if you don't alter the default options, and run the game, does it attempt to make a connection? (even before you login or however the game handles the login/connection timing/order)
Nothing was reported by our QA but then if the game works fine regardless of connection state (offline / online) they had no reason to look past that.
avatar
BAZ: [...]
No, I meant that offline and online states behave the same.

BAZ: Awesome, thanks for clarifing and the discussion.

I'm once again pleased with how gog is handling their business...... cept those two games that still have content locked behind online-drm. Boo for those two. (reason why I've not bought on gog in over a ?year?)

fuzzknuckle: The inquiry does sound a bit nitpicky, not saying that's a bad thing, I'm a very nitpicky person, but I know that my nitpickiness has a tendency to irritate people. I get why you're asking the question, but would the answer influence your purchase decision? You could always just try it and see whether you get the firewall popup, or someone else that has tried already can let us know.
avatar
BAZ: I only brought it up, because I was concerned if the gog version still had the un-authorized auto-connect the steam version has.
And what two games are you referring to?
avatar
JudasIscariot: And what two games are you referring to?
avatar
BAZ: My memory my be failing, but from what I can recall, it was maybe Age of Wonders 3, and Victor Vran... unless they were later patched or something.

And I'm not talking about non-content stuff like.... what was it, rankings? I'm talking about content, like game modes, or items, or events that require you to login after registering.
Victor Vran was patched a long time ago, I think maybe a week after the game's release and all of the content for Age of Wonders 3 is available for single player.

If you have concrete proof, please feel free to share :)
