War. War sometimes changes. For the better.

Darksiders: Warmastered Edition, the ultimate version of War's apocalyptic adventure against the forces of Heaven and Hell, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com, with a 80% launch discount.

Can the Apocalypse look beautiful? Well, in Darksiders: Warmastered Edition it does! All the texture resolutions have been doubled, the shadows are now rendered in higher quality, post-processing effects have been added, and the game runs smoother than ever.

Unfortunately, War doesn't have time to stop and admire the sights: Earth is a bloody mess, with Angels and Demons still battling each other, locked in an eternal struggle for power. The first rider of the Apocalypse is wrongfully accused for letting this happen, but he's not about to sit idly and see the world burn. Armed with an impressive arsenal, his trusty steed Ruin, his incredible platforming skills, and his penchant for combat, he is determined to find those responsible and bring them to justice. And this time, his epic adventure will look better than ever!

Join War's apocalyptic fight to clear your name in the spectacular-looking Darksiders: Warmastered Edition, DRM-free on GOG.com.
The 80% discount also applies to Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition and will last until December 2, 5:59 PM UTC.

Note: This edition is free for anyone who already owns Darksiders. Buying Warmastered Edition will also give you the original version as a free bonus.

Thiev: Warmastered includes all language versions.
I looked around, and it's not the languages. At least not majority of it. It's mainly the cutscenes. Lots of .wmv files with no language at all, only enviromental sounds. They are 3x-4x larger than they were before. Videos folder inflated from 3.5G to 11.3G.

That wouldn't be that bad I guess, hard drive space is cheap these days. But unfortunately the new video files are TOO high quality. VLC can only play them with heavy frame drops. Game plays them without frame drops, but with noticeable A/V desync. The first larger cutscene (before Destroyer fight starts) plays for about 20 seconds longer than it's audio. It shouldn't be problem with my hardware, I have witcher3-capable computer. Maybe something wrong with my codecs or settings somewhere, I'll try to fiddle with it some more, but so far for me the update broke much more than it fixed.

Edit: turns out that it really was software (and wetware behind the keyboard) error. I had my cpu set to max 70% in power management. The bad thing is that this is second time I burned myself with this setting. Some games just hog all the CPU they can find, and limiting it like this makes the fan quiet. Then I forget about it, most games run just fine even when limited, and year or more later...

The only complaint I have left is that the game doesn't save my language settings. Windows speak to me in english, if the game insists on autodetection it should use system language. Or, just remembering my choice would be fine, too.

i dont like a decent game removed from the store and replaced by a new and potentially (to completely truly) buggy alpha status version for it...

saw that wi(h deathinitive edition for darksiders 2 already thanks

so, please, GOG, let the old and usually working (or working with known workarounds) fine version on catalog for purchase, give the "newer" version as goodies, or bonus if you want

but i dont like stuff suddenly disappearing from my library and/or my favorite store's catalog to be replaced by bupgy crappy stuff that pretend to be better, honestly

old saying "if it ain't broke, dont fix it"

and yes, i know that old version available again and/or given/included in purchase... in past same kind of move was pullled on other titles from time to time, and things didnt get fixed or at least not as fast... so ranting is still valid afaic. i'm an old jerk, i don't like my routine to be disturbed, thank you :)

ThomNG: Enjoy enjoy enjoy, our friends of War! :)

And yeah - no region restrictions :) please contact your friendly GOG support if that happens ;)
Thank you!!! :)

And GOG of course as well! ;)
Thank you THQ Nordic! What a great surprise!
Thanks. I bought the original a while back and even though I haven't had the time to play it yet, I appreciate the update.
I appreciate this very much and would like to thank both the developers/publishers and GOG for this awesome pre-Christmas gift! :)
Great job THG Nordic. More releases on GOG, you guys rock!

Although I love the fact that you managed to include the old 'legacy'' version as bonus,
I am unable to download the old game via the Galaxy client,.
The legacy edition is not a seperate entry but just available via the manual game download...

I think this is intended on GOG, but can we please get a seperate entry for the old and new version? (just like everyone kept the old version on Steam as well. )

I am not sure how this is for people that owned the orginal Darksiders and now got the remaster added, but it would beneift everyone by actually being able to use the client to download the old game as well :)

(Ps. Please make Frontlines: Fuel of War happen on GOG, that game is amazing, although it requires a touch up)

The issue here is that they way you treated the remaster of DS2 and the remaster of DS are different. I don't see a good reason to do so, it seems random if not neglected.
Deathinitive edition is a different entry from the original Darksiders 2.
Warmastered edition is in the same entry as the original Darksiders.
Warmastered share the same reviews you have for the original Darksiders, a really poor service for your customers. They are two different game that could have different issue.
Warmastered also share the same changelog with Darksiders, so you have inconsistency with the updates.
Thanks for the upgrade!
So how does this compare to the shitty remaster of Darksiders 2? Same deal this time around?

Explain how it is shitty.
edit: oh, you're referring to the very long time it took for a simple controller button fix... Doesn't really make the remaster shitty.

Thanks, GOG. Appreciate your commitment to your clients.
Strangely, the Galaxy backup page only offers a single 22GB entry for Warmastered Ed., whereas going through the website allows you to download chunks of mostly 4GB. So if you have data caps to deal with, go through the website.

(Pity there seems to be no way to get a single-language installer for the original version now, which I assume is what explains the size of that: the one on my hard drive totals ~9.5GB, whereas what's now offered for download seems to total around 16GB.)

Thiev: Original installer will be available with a slight (~1h) delay. It will contain all languages bundled into one setup and you will be able to download it from extras section.
For Galaxy users, it will be possible to switch to public 'legacy' branch and download it from there.
Where should I be seeing that, other than the installer download page? The settings page just has the usual rollback and manual/automatic options (which I have just had to use after aborting an unwanted 22GB download, so it's in 'update available' mode).
