Hikage1983: Politely disagreeing with you. In my opinion, Blood Drive is the best of the Heavenly Host arc for plot reasons that i will not reveal here due to massive spoilers. I'll just say that the character catharsis element is extraordinarily heart warming.
Also if you missed the true ending, well.... Don't.

You are obviously entitled to your opinion but i think "terrible horrible" is a tad harsh :)

omega64: Considering playing it made me nauseous due to the performance combined with introducing magical girls and bad endings with way less effort put in I'll hold to my opinion. :P
It might go from excruciatingly bad to okay I suppose in some ways on PC considering performance will be decent.
Yea ok i'll give you that. Performance wasn't great on vita (assuming you played that version and not the mobile port)
and it even crashed on me once. Good ol unity engine has always struggled outside of PC.
We can trust Xseed to make a good PC port at least. And soon-ish too. It is slated for an "end of (winter) season" release.

It crashed for me like 6+ times. :P
Remember the bucket with flies? Game froze for a second every time. :D
And yup Vita.
Neato. Will grab this eventually. Good a time as any to finally play the first one.

Wow that's alot of crashing. Did you buy digital? I think i remember reading that the digital version was more crash-prone than the physical copy (which is what i have).
And yes i sure do remember them flies. Good use of binaural 3D audio. EDIT: But no freezing for me there.

Oh and as a btw we are also getting the Sachiko's Birthday spinoff game later this winter too. For the first time in the west even. Forgot to mention that in the previous post.

Nope, physical. Weird, review I read even mentioned it and it happened every time. Yeah I'm excited to finally play the spinoff.

I can speculate on a few possible explanations. Is your copy american? That version received a massive 1gb patch that fixed quite a few things in the game, crashes included. European copy came prepatched.

I mean, I don't think I had to dl a patch or even could. And I am in Europe.

Well, maybe i just got lucky. Anyway, i believe I have derailed this long enough.

Enjoy Book of Shadows and don't forget to import your Blood Covered save for extra CGs and quick access to the secret chapter ! :)

Awesome! Thanks so much, XSEED and GOG! <3

omega64: The terrible horrible sequel to this: Blood Drive and a spinoff. Corpse Party 2 is coming but it's episodic so not for me until it's complete.

Blood Drive is the worst presentation. Something is lost in having bad ends and gruesome fates showcased via little chibi sprites and crap animations. Simply doing audio and text or CGs is a hell of a lot better.

It resolved very little, it twisted the established plot to shoehorn it's plot in. Could have been so much better with the premise... Just ended up weird, cliched in spots, and not very immersive.

But, is it really possible to make a horror game withouth it being cliche?
I mean, the whole premise about horror games is often used tropes to scare people
There migth be diffrent way to convey it but the point of it is still to be scary, gruesome or shocking or make you uneasy in some way.
At least i cant really think of a Horror game out of the top of my head that have changed this formula.

I should have worded it better. "painfully cliche", would be a better descriptor. There weren't really any major surprises. It followed tropes/cliches by the book from start to finish. There wasn't anything particularly novel, which admittedly would have been fine had it delivered better on immersion and "horror". Chibi 3D models getting thrown around doesn't accomplish that all that effectively.

As opposed to "chibi 2D sprites" in the original. It's a matter of taste. Personally i do not find it distracting.

Also if you play Corpse Party games expecting to be scared you will be disappointed.
It is more about feeling unsettled and disturbed rather than scared. It is also all about evoking pathos as well, that is, appealing to the feelings of the player. It's more psychological and viewed from THAT prism, immersion succeeds. Obviously, one's mileage will vary but that is how i see it, personally.

Yeah other games make use of blank screens w/ text, color, and audio. Whereas Blood Drive undermines the imagination by having comical 3D chibi characters thrown around or collapsing. Most the real visceral opportunities are undermined in that way in fact. Whereas the other titles left it up to the "reader" to picture it or supplemented things with CGs.

With horror sometimes leaving things vague or unseen can be better, or even just showing the aftermath. Blood Drive throws all that out the window for "NEW 3D OMG".

Ok since you chose not to address the points i presented in my post, let us just settle for agree to disagree.
We both are entitled to our opinions.
Have a nice day :)
