MarkoH01: "It's a standard release discount. It's a new game on GOG - can't really sell it for -40% on release day. I'd say given the price of some games out there it really isn't that high anyway."

At least for me it is understandable that a launch discount for a new game has to be lower than a sale discount for a game that has been on the platform for quite some time.

I completely understand the devs pov ... and he's also correct when he says that the game is not overpriced at all.
That statement by the dev is a bunch of nonsense IMO. It's currently 40% on St*** but GOG customers should pay full price at the same time? I don't think so. That is not justice. That is not fair.

Moreover, there is no such thing as a "launch discount" for an old game. This game was launched at the time when it was originally published on St***. The dev also publishing it on GOG, after it's become old, is not a new "launch." "Launches" only happen once, and that ship has sailed already for Burnhouse Lane.

Likewise, the game on GOG doesn't magically reacquire its original MSRP value from the original & only real launch date just because the dev didn't include GOG in that same launch date.

For example, that's the same reason why all the GOG releases of big name Sega titles and Take 2 titles have a very large discount on day 1 of their GOG release...because they are old games, and they are not being "launched" on GOG just because they are "new" to GOG. Whereas if they were new games and being launched on GOG, then they'd have something like a small 10% launch discount only, instead.

Anyway, I shall never be buying any of this dev's games on any platform nor at any price, until if and when they give their games feature parity, as they should be doing automatically without having to be asked.

Without feature parity, then their games are certainly overpriced on GOG for that reason alone, and they are doubly-overpriced on GOG when considering the fact that other customers get 40% off for the game bought elsewhere at the exact same period in time.

I disagree here. I fail to see why a launch discount should only be possible once for a game if you release at different times on different platforms. Let's just assume that it is possible (imo it is a matter of the definition for "launch") - in that case it could well have been that Steam customers also only got 10% discount back then and it might also be that we'll get a 40% discount at a later time. It makes sense from an economic point of view to first try a regular price (and as teh dev said, it is not really a high price) before going down. They already sold at higher prices on Steam and now thsoe who were willing to pay more are gone and so it is possible to give an even higher discount there. That is absolutely normal behavior with every product you want to sell. Steam (with DRM) is one market and GOG (without DRM - except for rewards ;)) is another market and as a dev you will approach those seperately in most cases.

Anyway - you might still dislike this but it is not a bunch of nonsense, it is simple economics.

Btw: SEGA and other big publishers are able to offer such large discounts. They know that people are aware that the games are old and are trying to attract customers again with the low price. This is something an indie dev simply cannot afford!

There are multiple things to consider. Barring any region-pricing shenanigans, games tend to be priced the same on all platforms. Yes, different platforms tend to have sales at different times, however at the moment and for the next few days, both Steam and GOG summer sales coincide. So once again, many games are equally discounted.

At the same time, not every person cares about DRM or what platform they use. I know some people who buy games from where they are sold the cheapest, everything else being secondary. So now, every person of such mentality will ignore GOG by default. Some GOG users will feel like they're being treated as second class again, both due to a higher price and lack of achievements. So now both groups of users will ignore GOG until prices equalise and this will create the impression that GOG sales are so low that GOG is not worth the bother to the developer. And then we get even less games on GOG and less effort to implement feature parity.

The only people who will buy this right now are the ones who value DRM-Free games above everything else and want to play this game ASAP. This just ends up reducing the potential buyer pool.

I have all the other games from this developer, so I will buy this game eventually too, but seeing as there are no achievements and my backlog is massive, I am is no rush.

Awaiting full-price for purchase - love this series.
941MB space yet minimum requirements say 3GB?

The requirement on the right often refers to Offline installer size, which tends to be heavily compressed. I'd go with 3GB.

Wow, that's quite a difference. Thanks for the clarification.
