Hellfire expansion is now available as a free add-on for everyone who purchases the Blizzard classic Diablo on GOG.COM.

Originally developed by Synergistic Software and released in 1997, Hellfire was not an official Blizzard product and did not carry Blizzard’s endorsement or label. Despite that, in response to Diablo players who have expressed a desire to experience the content, Blizzard has given the OK for it to be included as a free add-on with Diablo purchases on GOG.COM.

Hellfire offers a non-canonical single-player storyline where players must defeat a powerful demon named Na-Krul who is threatening Tristram. The expansion also adds a Monk class, new weapons and items, new missions, locations, dungeons, and enemies. Hellfire will be accessible while launching the original Diablo.

The Hellfire expansion comes with high-resolution support and compatibility updates to allow it to run on modern systems, and it’s available now as a free add-on for everyone who purchases the Blizzard classic Diablo. The game is currently 10% off during the Summer Sale Festival until June 17, 10 PM UTC.

That was ...unexpected. I'm actually wishlisting the game (till I clear my backlog) because of this.

Given that it actually happened ; is there any chance of adding Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon expansions too?

Thanks GoG and Blizzard for this very nice surprise, although the update gave me a heart attack. Was checking stuff online when my DOS window popped up with commands being ran. So ya, maybe next time make it an option to download vs. just automatically updating the game like that.

Thanks again though for he Hellfire diablo mod.

How is this possible? I can't believe what I'm reading.

Blizzard... did it for the fans... this feels like some GOG witchery. I can't believe this.

This gives me hope for a proper Lost Vikings 2 release, with the SNES 2D sprites, instead of the 3D clay models we got on PC.

GOG team, you gave me enough reason to spend again money on this title (instant bought). I had only Diablo 1 on CD (Box edition), but now I have version with expansion legaly without any DRM.

I have only hope that in future I will also have oportunity to add Diablo 2 with LoD to my collection on GOG...

There seemed to be a lot of hate for hellfire but I loved it. Even minor things had big improvemnts. Start the game as a magic user? With hellfire you get a GOOD offensive spell. Walking around out of the dungeon? Twice as fast!

Besides the Monk, wasn't there a barbarian class as well?
