Swampland: I read in this thread that people who bought the Enhanced Editions got codes for the original versions of those games. How about people who bought the Enhanced Editions before the original versions were removed from GOG's store? That would be me and I just checked my email. I never received any such codes. Am I looking in the wrong place? Or am I simply not eligeble to the original games because I purchased these games before the originals were removed?
The gift code is under More, or something, in your library (when you look at the EE version)

juliusborisov: The BG2:EE OST offers original soundtracks for Baldur's Gate II and Throne of Bhaal composed by Michael Hoenig, Inon Zur, and Howard Drossin, plus 15 new tracks by Sam Hulick. Ther're 81 tracks in it, including 34 that have previously never been released. All tracks are provided in both MP3 and lossless FLAC format, for your listening pleasure. Total Length: 113 min, 50 sec.

I get that. What I'm asking is are the tracks legitimately lossless for ToB (and the unreleased ones too, I suppose)? FLAC can be had from a lossy source, after all.
Rather lucky for Beamdog that the soundtrack are being sold separately right when their games are on sale. Especially since you need to own the EE games in order to buy the soundtrack....

Sashh: I remember the times when Good Old Games were giving such stuff as extras for free.

Shame on you GOG and Beamdog.
GoG can only give stuff away for free if they are allowed to by the publisher/developer. GoG has no say in this. This is what happens when you sign contracts. The contract says if you want to see the EE editions, you then have to sell the OST's at a later date. Simple cut and dry right there. Or don't sell the EE's at all.
avatar
juliusborisov: If it's the case as of today, then it's GoG's decision. Beamdog can't influence GoG's way of distribution of original games and their extras.
Let me express reasonable doubt in your words, Julius. Here is what GOG support is saying about removing original Planescape: Torment from store:
"The availability of the original game depends on the agreement we have with the publisher, and the choice was between making the original game available as bonus content, the way it is now, or not making it available at all."

Original Planescape could ruin sales of EE that's why you forced GOG to remove it from sales. And now original soundtracks can ruin sales of these new "DLC". If it is a case now with OST then my guess that it was Beamdog who forced GOG to remove them from goodies to original series as you made with Planescape.

Beamdog is not the publisher of the original games. It's Hasbro (WotC).
I'd also like to link the reply of our support - https://www.gog.com/forum/baldurs_gate_series/info_on_possibly_getting_the_classics_unbundled/post29.

Beamdog can't force GoG to anything. Both Beamdog and GoG are working based on contracts with the rightholder, both Beamdog and GoG get rights to sell games from this rightholder. Beamdog can get rights only to distribute EEs through their own channels, while GoG can get rights to distribute EEs, as well as rights to distribute original games.

Then either Hasbro is only to blame or GOG support is telling not truth and silently changed principals they sticked for years, right? :-)

I wish GOG representative could step in and clear this out :(

I also think that it's definitely a publisher who make such decisions. GOG is just a reseller in this case.

So you are saying that Hasbro made this deal in order to make less money? The classic versions were outselling the EE versions by miles, as you know.

It would be in Hasbro's best interest to keep the games selling separately, no?
Pretty disgusting move, whoever was responsible for it. And a pet peeve - it's not CLASSICAL music, that either denotes the Western Classical Tradition, which these soundtracks aren't a part of, or the music of the First Viennese School, i.e. Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. "Classic soundtracks" would be a more appropriate label.

Yes. I've asked around - any FLAC files were sourced from the artists or created from CD OSTs.

immi101: the classic Icewind Dale soundtrack includes 51 tracks + 18 tracks from the Heart of Winter soundtrack
the "enhanced" soundtrack only includes the 51 tracks from the base game.
Those 18 tracks from HoW are something Beamdog would like to add. The team have just found the soundtrack in MP3 form, they're hunting for something they can create FLAC files from.

Hasbro will likely get a cut from the sale of Beamdog games and OST's. I bet they stand to make more money by promoting the sales of the Beamdog products.

I have no access to finance documents of the rightholder.

Stop counting them as game releases .

They would list them as music, if they could finally figure out how to work this site ;)
