Underwater wonders to wander on your own terms.

Aquaria, a metroidvania underwater adventure, is available now on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 50% launch discount.

We hardly think about it daily, but the mysteries of the deep sea right beneath our feet remain just as alien to us as the farthest reaches of our solar system. And where the unknown begins, our imagination starts to wander, and the world of Aquaria begin to fascinate.
Aquaria is a game about exploring both the deepest, darkest recesses of the sea and the sunlit expanses of underwater havens. Equal parts game and audio-visual experience, it's a critically acclaimed adventure that's out to challenge, delight you with a beautiful wide world to explore, and treat you with respect by letting you do so on your own terms. Aside from gamers' hearts, Aquaria stole the show during the prestigious 2007 Independent Games Festival where it was awarded first place for Excellence in Audio, Excellence in Visual Art, Design Innovation as well as the big grand prize as best of show. As one most acclaimed indie productions in recent years, there's no better place for Aquaria than a digital shelf on GOG.com.

Experience an underwater metroidvania with Aquaria, available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. You can take advantage of the 50% launch discount for the first week, until Tuesday, August 11, 12:59 PM GMT.
I just wanted to say I'm very happy Aquaria has finally made it to GOG. I've been waiting quite some time for it, and the game is also half off? I'm all over it. Last time Aquaria was on sale was two years ago on Steam. Seems like the game doesn't get discounted very often. My advice is to get while the getting's good.
Does this game support the Xbox 360 controller? (Got Xpadder if not, just wanting to know.)
Somebody fill me in, but didn't the developer say they couldn't release this on GOG?

It does. Just make sure to run the game's config executable beforehands, in order to enable it.
Nice to see it finally here :)
I heard a lot of good about this game ! Seems great : time to buy it !

CharlesGrey: Sounds pretty damned good to me. :)

( Well, except for that part where Samus Aran has sex with a dolphin. I'm still trying to decide whether that's a good or bad mental picture. )

Maighstir: Samus isn't a metroid though, much less a super metroid.
Metroid Fusion says hello...

Game uses SDL so it should work out of the box.

Good to see a Linux release on GOG from day one. That's the way to do it. Kudos to developers.

Makes me wonder why it took GOG so long to release this game...
Wow, a new game with decent graphics, sane hardware requirements, a Linux version, no confusing extended complete deluxe editions and not even regionally priced (at least without a fair price package). Well done!

Ok, it's not that new, but still ...

Unfortunately it's probably not my kind of a game, although I don't completely understand what that "Metroidvania" means as I don't know neither the Metroid nor the Castlevania games. The German "translation" also isn't very helpful. ;)

PS: Compare the graphics and then the hardware requirements of Aquaria with those of the other "Metroidvania" game, Odallus. Sigh!

Finally! A very very nice release that I highly recommend!
Been waiting for this one for quite a while... and at $5, I might have to revisit my budget to make room for it!

Barry_Woodward: Far out, GOG! It is the dawning of the age of AQUARIA! :D

fortune_p_dawg: Paul Rudd and Seth Rogan's war against exercise stings the eyeballs. Lol!
Really? You see a video with people having fun, and your first reaction is to fat shame? You must be a joy to be around IRL.

IIRC, dolphins have a prehensile penis (they can control it like a limb). I dunno if that makes it better or worse, though. ;-)

The short version is that it's a platformer that involves lots of exploration with upgrades that improve combat abilities and/or allow further exploration.
This game used to have a fair number of mods but the forums are shut down. I still have the Samus mod thank goodness...

MischiefMaker: This game was made back before XBLA made indie games mainstream and the tools that let indies create gorgeous games like it's nothing weren't available. At the time it was a tremendous technical achievement to make a game that looked and sounded this good. Nowadays everything looks good unless they're intentionally being retro.
The game looks and sounds fantastic, no denying, I'm talking about the content of the game.

Dalthnock: I won't defend the game 'cuz I haven't played it yet, though I certainly will later on, but SOME things need to have a sort of a build up to be really, really good.

Sounds to me like you're hooked on instant gratification. You can't keep those highs forever, though.

Cheers!
How many hours of buildup does it need? I'm sure I had played it for at least two hours before giving up. It's not like I can't hold my attention for more than five minutes, I have played slow games before, like turn-based strategy games, but even they get going after a short while.

Thanks! I was afraid that some kind of platformer is hidden behind the "Metroidvania". Tagging it as platformer would have made it easier for me. :P
That is an easy instabuy! Glad it finally arrived!
