I'm wondering how exactly GOG works. For example on Steam, some games have different versions of it available for different regions, and you can check those by Subid. Same game can have multiple subids and only one of those subid may be purchasable in certain region. How's it handled on GOG? I'm in CIS region, however I hate purchasing region locked games, on Steam I can check what version of the game is available for me (steamdb.info) but on GOG, I couldn't find anything. From other posts, I heard region locked games may be just unavailable at all in a certain region, others said there is no versioning on GOG, but I still couldn't find a definite answer. So here I'm posting this.
is the store not guideline enough for your purpose?

so long as your currency is shown you can purchase
There is a community thread about this topic here

https://www.gog.com/forum/general/regional_locked_games_on_gog_v2/page1

It includes a spreadsheet which has all games that are affected by region lock and the thread is updated regularly by the community when an issue arises.

One game (Witcher 2) is slightly different in Australia compared to other territories. Other than this single example, all games have the same versions here and region-locking works by not allowing you access to the game's page if you are in one of the affected territories.

Is GOG Witcher 2 really different if you download it from Australia? I always had the impression everyone gets the same download, only purchases are region locked for some games.

I think if only for legal reasons. I remember the Germany version of BloodRayne has censorship with the Nazis in the game.

Though if there's a Chineese version that demands you only play during certain times and you have to log in in order to play... Uggg....

Yes, region-locking works as you are describing... with the exception of Witcher 2, in which a different version is offered at the point of purchase for Australians.

At least, that was the case until the release of the Enhanced Edition (not 100% sure).

Some old threads are floating indicating the EE could still be censored in AU. Just downloaded the uncensor patch files before the links go dark. Nice catch *thumbs up*.
