Where/how do I find what needs to update? How do I clear this?

goto your library, find the updated game and click the game box, then it should clear after a while

Click on "Account", you'll see "My Collection" click on that and you'll see an option for an updated game. Select that and click on the game and it should go away.

I think it's a bug in the old downloader. I also see a red 1, but there is nothing new according to the browser.
