I am trying to find out whether Silent Hill Collection (PS2 version not the HD Collection) contains Silent Hill 2 (vanilla) or Silent Hill 2 Director's Cut (also called Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams in the US and Silent Hill 2: Inner Fears in Europe). I tried to dig into it but couldn't really find any information. So I would really appreciate if someone would help me out!

Hi there, no it contains the regular version :) The director's cut was a separate release on its own.
I'll include wiki quotes for more info:

Silent Hill 2 was first released for the PlayStation 2 in North America on September 24, 2001, in Japan on September 27, 2001, and in Europe on November 23, 2001.[56] The original European edition also included a second disc: a "Making-of" DVD video featuring trailers, an artwork gallery and a documentary on the title's development.[57] The revised version of the game was ported back to the PS2 and billed as a director's cut under both the "Greatest Hits" and "Platinum" labels depending on location.[58] In 2006, Konami re-released Silent Hill 2 with its indirect PS2 sequels, Silent Hill 3 and Silent Hill 4: The Room, as The Silent Hill Collection and again in 2009

A more definitive version of the game, Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams, was re-released with new features on the PlayStation 2 as a "Greatest Hits" title and ported to the Xbox and PC. It is known as Silent Hill 2: Saigo no Uta ("The Final Song") in Japan, and in Europe, Silent Hill 2: Inner Fears on Xbox and Silent Hill 2: Director's Cut on PC and PS2. It features an additional UFO Ending, a new scenario called Born from a Wish, and exclusive to the PC version, the ability to save anywhere, swap weapons without opening the menu, and a movie gallery.

Also were you able to get your hand on a SH collection on the ps2? It's really rare nowadays and quite expensive...

If you're buying those games buy them separate. It will save you alot of money. I believe the collection had the original print in it.

thank you so much! yes I could get a brand new copy for 29 UK pounds which I believe is fair. Now I need to find a copy of the Director's Cut though, as I mean to play the definitive version of the second game :)

Why do you want the collection? The games separate are not expensive at all. That is quite a rip off.

Take a look around amazon and you'll see that the games can be quite expensive :s Unless you can get it really cheap in your local gaming store or something or a used copy. The collection on the ps2 is quite rare to find too.

Just don't look on amazon haha. It is usually an absolute rip off. Better deals on ebay.
Make sure to get the original version of Silent Hill 3. I've read that for some reason the voices were all changed in the re-release of SH3.

I heard the same thing, and I think that's a huge mistake by Konami. The voice actress for the main character got the "tone" absolutely perfect (if that makes sense), and the voice acting performance by that lady in the confession booth was downright bone-chilling. I hope they didn't change those 2 voice actors.
I have the Special 2-Disc version you can see in the attachment.

my understanding is that also is not the definitive version. I have found a helpful link explaining almost all the versions :)
