Grargar: No, it's not common. GOG has only done this with Witcher 2 and 3, the games of their sister company, CD Projekt RED. More than likely, they will do it again when Cyberpunk 2077 (another CD Projekt RED game) releases, but they haven't done so for any other game so far. But who knows what the future holds...

Grargar: They have done this with Witcher 2 years before Galaxy was even a thing. Give preemptive access to all files except the executable and reserve the executable for the release date. That way, you won't have to download GBs of files but only a few MBs on release day.

No not common but will probably become more common as Galaxy gets closer to a full release and out of beta I would wager.
