I wish I could afford a couple(or 10) of these at full capacity. That should be enough for my GOG library: https://www.netgear.com/business/products/storage/readynas/RR4360X.aspx#tab-techspecs

Those are all well and good until Uuhd/16K games/media come out and we all need xetabyte(spelling?) drives.

hedwards: AFAIK, they only go to that length when there wasn't a license to allow the sale in the first place and they did provide compensation for the removals.

Generally speaking though, the licenses include language to allow GOG to continue to distribute previously sold copies to the buyer after the license expires. The license itself just covers the selling of new licensed copies, not the older ones.

Occasionally, you have things like with Quake where they yank the original version due to the soundtrack not technically being licensed and replace it with an authorized version, but in that case, if you downloaded the game immediately, like I did, you can still use the older version, it might just require some effort to keep up with potential patching issues later on.

GameRager: You can also patch back in the music via other sites. Though imo companies should try to get lifetime rights to such to avoid this kind of thing.
I believe you can patch in the original CD music and it's not that hard. It is however, somewhat questionable legally speaking, even though Trent Reznor doesn't seem to care one way or the other.

And yeah, this is a textbook example of the kind of thing that should have involved a lifetime license. I thought the music was written specifically for the game and hasn't been released independently of the game.

I'd personally rather have higher quality AA and lighting effects than arbitrarily large numbers of pixels at this point.

That and a game where things sitting on tables randomly start levitating because I bumped into the table.

Imo if one had a copy in the past and it broke/got damaged and they bought the GOG version to replace it then they should be legally allowed to.....and for all others to me it's only fair, irregardless of what Trent/etc says(depending on if he had it removed or the music label did).

Also it's similar to the whole deal with some games(racing iirc) having a limited window to use certain makes/models in their games for only a set period...I could be wrong though.

TO be fair, I think we only need even those kinds of improvements to a point...eventually the barrier past which our eyes/brains can't tell the difference will be reached/crossed and/or stuff will reach into uncanny valley levels of realism only suited for VR.

We’ve got quite a few messages from you about media news that Minecraft: Story Mode will not be downloadable after June 25th. We want to confirm that this is not the case for GOG.COM as in our publisher agreements we make sure that delisted games remain available to users who bought them.

Minecraft: Story Mode, as well as others on GOG.COM, will be available for those customers who purchased them before and will be downloadable both through GOG GALAXY client and DRM-free installers. Feel free to download it and play anytime you want. If any technical issues appear, you can contact GOG Support directly and we’ll do our best to help you.

tremere110: It looks like Minecraft Story Mode isn't just being removed from sale, it's being removed from the library of owners as well. At least that is the implication Mojang is making.

I'm hoping it's just unintentionally bad wording on their part, but just in case you should download backups ASAP.
They probably meant on other platforms, in the sense that the statistics and analytics and percentages would no longer be available. I'm not sure they were ever a feature of the gog version.
I have just read about this. I have offline backups of all my installers but to be sure I just wanted to download the game again. I find the game in my library but if I click the Icon, I get the grey window but it is totally empty.

Is this an error or is it intended?
