It may be more cost effective to produce? Cheaper to ship also? It may share more components with the next console.

Oh man! That was close! *whew* That thing almost hit me on the head! People should be careful, someone could lose an eye. Good thing that I'm short! :-)

I did consider it a valid question. With rumours of another PS4 version, it could make sense to just retire the old one.
