Hey guys, maybe someone with more DosBox experience can help me with this.

Every game I run on from GOG, by clicking on the shortcut provided by the installer or by running from the target
of the shortcut, if the game runs with DosBox, it refuses to run full screen.

By this I mean, the game will start as a black screen, then switch back and forth to my desktop, before going into windowed mode.

If I try to make it go back into windowed mode [or run the game in windowed mode first then hit alt + enter] I get the same black screen and flickering until it goes back to windowed mode.

The weird part about all of this is, if I run the game via dosbox itself, the game runs fine in full-screen.

Is there any way I can fix this so I can run my games easily, again?

Did you try different graphics modes? Like overlay or opengl?
You should post the content of the [SDL] section of the dosbox conf file provided with the game.
I don't know if Steam rules apply for Galaxy, but try putting "-fullscreen" to the launch options of the game.

But the flicker intrigues me, maybe the game is running at a different Hz refresh rate than your monitor?

That sounds like GOG's default options are specifying a screen mode that either your video card or monitor can't handle. From memory, they tend to leave the games to run in a pretty low resolution and let the user's hardware upscale it.

I suggest changing the full screen resolution in the .conf file to 0x0 (this specifies your desktop resolution). You'll also need to change the render mode to something better than surface or overlay.

That's not actually a Steam thing, it's just a common flag used by many games. You can do the same by adding that to a desktop shortcut, but it won't work for every game (regardless of whether it's on Steam or not).

So I've forgotten about this post and thread because I suck. I'm sorry.

I eventually fixed the problem, it had something to do with the fact that I was using my TV instead of my regular monitor.

No idea why this was a problem but it's fixed now that I play my dosbox games using my regular PC screen and not the living room TV.

Weird.

Thanks for the update. It would be interesting to hear if anyone else has had this problem.
I was having this problem for most games that did not support my TVs native 1920 x 1080p 50/60 Hz resolution.
I would be constantly greeted by blank screens, TV going into standby mode or 'Mode not supported' or 'Out of range' errors being displayed.

Which is why said TV is no longer with me, and I now consume all my media, games and other content on a large computer monitor, which does support most, if not all the modes and resolutions I currently need.
Yes, normal tellies are just useless compared to the superior personal computer.
In a modern world software would just leave the monitor at whatever resolution it runs at, and scale the image to fit if the game can't render at that resolution.

Too bad software sucks :(
My Giant 50" HDR 4k TV screen sure makes a great PC monitor

I do however turn off the backlight I don't want eyeball burn in where images are burnt into my eyeballs, Ouw that backlight is like a spotlight right in the eyes!

Sounds to me like GOG's DOSBox configuration was using a resolution that your TV didn't support. I guess you never tried my suggestion?

DOSBox can do that. It's GOG who sucks at configuring DOSBox.

Hey man, whatever it's worth I finally tried what you said and found out that, while it's different for some games for some reason, there is a specific resolution that has to be set for DOSBOX games to work

Thanks
