I just got an account on here the other day at the recommendation of a friend but I'm having issues getting my Ps4 Controller to work on games. I've tried it on Oblivion and The Witcher but I can't get the games to detect controller inputs. I tried logging out of Steam to see if it's controller detection was effecting things but no change. I know the PC is detecting the controller since I can play Steam games and tested the controller with an Online Controller tester after logging out of steam. Can anybody help me figure out how to fix this issue? This controller is genuinely only used for PC gaming since the battery is basically dead on it and I can only use it when it's plugged in. I'd be very disappointed if I end up needing to get an Xbox controller or something else since PC Gaming is literally the only thing this controller is good for now.

As you also use steam have you tried adding the game as a non steam game in your library, then running it with steams controller override thingy?
Edit: I'm pretty sure both only support xbox controllers natively.
Edit2: neither game makes mention of controller support on the store pages

Okay this actually helped a lot with Oblivion, but not with The Witcher so far. You're definitely right that The Witcher cannot use a controller, however with Oblivion by adding it to my steam library (Which I didn't even know I could do by the way) let the game detect a controller input with Steam's Controller Override. This didn't by itself let me use the controller but because of it the in-game controls were able to notice a controller input letting me manually bind the controls in that menu. it IS still partial support since a lot of the menus my controller can't operate flawlessly but now thanks to this I can play the game using a controller almost like I used to do on Ps3. thanks for the help!
I would suggest using a mouse and keyboard (or programmable controller) rather than a controller. Mouse aiming is far more accurate than twiddle stick. In terms of programable, I got an azeron controller which has tonnes of buttons and a twiddly stick, all programmable to be either controller or keyboard. Whilst controllers alone are fine for some games (fighting, driving, platform) anything first person, RTS mouse wins. A lot of older games were not built for controller. Also, if you want to avoid using steam there are free tools like antimicro:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/antimicro.mirror/
Which can map controller to keyboard and mouse (much like steam does).

Oh yeah Mouse controls definitely have benefits for sure. I'll absolutely be figuring out the controls on the Witcher with mouse now that I know it just won't work but with Oblivion, for now at least I'm using the partial Controller support. It'll certainly be worse than standard Mouse sensitivity but at least for now I'm running it this way since it's how I learned to play the game and it is actually a better setup right now given how I stream the gameplay off a TV in my room (Also cause I need to buy an external Keyboard with a longer cord since the one I use Barely reaches when I'm gaming as of now)

Cool, to note you don’t necessarily need a keyboard there are plenty of controller type keypads out there with different setups, twiddle sticks, programmability. Heck, some of those mmo mice have so many programmable buttons on you could do it all there. In case you wonder what I use in conjunction with a decent mouse:

As a general rule, you can't expect many PC games to natively detect PS controllers. All of those games you used your PS4 controller with on Steam would have been using Steam's controller compatibility layer thing and that's likely the only reason they worked. As Sachys said, adding a game to Steam as a non-Steam game will let you use that compatibility layer on other games. There are numerous other controller mapping programs out there, both free and paid if you're looking for something else. Xpadder is quite useful for mapping games of all kinds to games that only support mouse and keyboard.

Wow. I don't doubt how ergonomic that is, but man is it freaky looking.

It is freaky and takes a lot of getting used to. All adjustable though, comes with a screwdriver and you can move all the bits to fit your hand. Still early days for me. Has two memory slots so advice I have seen is a wasd setup for those games which don’t support controllers and a controller setup, just switch profile as needed. Coke back in six months and see if I am still happy with it though.
