NOTE: I've answered my own question so it may be a waste of time to read this but you can if you want.

I've been playing a game called The Ward by Fragile Bits, and I can't find anyone who has ever played it before. I'm stuck, and I've found two different tutorials (and a few that are identical). For some reason, one tutorial diverges from the other right at the part where I am now, and stuff happens that has nothing to do with what I'm doing, so I guess that narrows it down to just the other tutorial which could even possibly be useful to me. There don't seem to be any others in the world - not in English anyway.

So the problem is that when I do exactly what it says, nothing happens! It's the part where I've just gotten to the "Fraction" (some big city on Mars with cars flying through tubes and such), and when I try to use Pager's ID card on the sensor, it does nothing! Here's the walkthrough that I've checked:

http://www.gameboomers.com/wtcheats/pcWw/theward.html

I'm right at the point where it says "Go to the door at far right rear and use Pager's card on the sparking white sensor left of the central panel. Walk through the now liquid door. Follow the light." If you search part of the text you should find it; it's about two thirds down the document judging by the scroll bar. Earlier in the same, I did use a card and cause a section of a wall to become a liquid "door" that I could walk through, but nothing like that happened this time. Anyway, has anyone been in this situation before? Has anyone ever even PLAYED this game before? Is it supposed to actually DO something when I use the card or have I lost my mind?

EDIT: ARGH! You wouldn't believe it, but when I used the card it did make it possible for me to walk through the wall, but unlike the other time there was NO indication that anything had changed and no way for me to know that it was possible to walk through the wall or even where the hole was! I just kept messing with it until I accidentally stumbled onto it. Sorry to waste anyone's time, but still, it's very disconcerting that this game does this to people!

Congratulations on finding where you could 'walkthrough' the wall. XD

Is this game supposed to be a puzzle?
Well it's what they call an adventure game, so basically, yes. In a way, it's a series of puzzles.
