Ys VI returns to PC.

Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim, an English-language Windows premiere, is available for pre-order now, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 15% discount!

Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim becomes available on PC, in English, for the very first time ever. Ys is an action-jRPG series where your thumbs, combat, and platforming skills will all be tested - the series' focus on keeping combat fast, fluid and enjoyable is as clear as ever. Though the game premiered on PSP and PS2 several years ago, this release can easily be considered the "definitive" edition with a brand new translation, true widescreen support, updated mechanics (including better checkpoints), and support for modern controllers. If you think you've got what it takes - the aptly named Catastrophe Mode may just you be your next challenge. The future of Ys is bright for PC gamers!

Pre-order Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim, DRM-free on GOG.com! The game is expected to launch on Tuesday, April 28.
Thanks. I'll check them out

(I'm normally not adverse to unusual gameplay, but the way you run headlong into enemies like a headless chicken in Ys1 just bugs me.)

IronArcturus: So is Ys I and II considered the "best" of the series?
My ranking of the Ys games so far is

1- 3 (OiF)
2- Ys Seven= Ys Origin
3- Ys 1 = Ys 2

Not to say 1 and 2 are bad, far from it, but the other games are just much better gameplay wise IMO.

No. Origin is better (can't talk about Oath in Felghana, as I haven't played this one).
Obviously pre-ordered as soon as I got my video game budget for the month. :)

Ys VI was the first modern Ys game I played, a few years back, unfortunately via piracy and using a fan-made mod, so all I wish for, now, is to show Nihon Falcom how I enjoy their Ys games and that I respect and support them. It doesn't hurt that Falcom and XSeed are treating us GOG customers respectfully and the same way as people buying their games on Steam -- we got all of the Ys games available on PC so far, with Ys VI getting a day-one release, plus Legend Of Heroes: Trails in the Sky and Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure (even though Gurumin isn't published in the west by XSeed, it's still a Nihon Falcom game).

Any Falcom, Ys or general action-JRPG fan should give this one a go; it might not be as good as Oath in Felghana or Origin, but it's the one that basically brought the Ys series back and was popular enough that Falcom decided they should take what they learned from it and practically revive the series and bring it back to a new audience. Also, with the improvements Ys: The Ark of Napishtim is getting (namely, a much needed save point warp system), it's becoming much more alike its younger siblings, thus becoming better as well.

I can't stress this enough: this game is one of the best GOG has to offer and if you feel like you're even remotely interested in it, I would advise you to pre-order it or, if you don't agree with pre-ordering, at least make sure you give it a try as soon as it's properly released on the 28th. With the four days you have left, make sure to watch some walkthroughs and Let's Plays of it, to make sure it's up your alley or not.

NoxTM: I keep reading "Napishtim" as "Nepotism" :/.
True fact. And I kept reading "Oath in Felghana" as "Oath in Felgueiras" (a town in northern Portugal), so me and my girlfriend just gave up trying to say it correctly and just started calling the game "Ys: Felgueiras".
I never pre-order games but for Ys, i can make an exception.
