Ys VI returns to PC.

Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim, an English-language Windows premiere, is available for pre-order now, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 15% discount!

Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim becomes available on PC, in English, for the very first time ever. Ys is an action-jRPG series where your thumbs, combat, and platforming skills will all be tested - the series' focus on keeping combat fast, fluid and enjoyable is as clear as ever. Though the game premiered on PSP and PS2 several years ago, this release can easily be considered the "definitive" edition with a brand new translation, true widescreen support, updated mechanics (including better checkpoints), and support for modern controllers. If you think you've got what it takes - the aptly named Catastrophe Mode may just you be your next challenge. The future of Ys is bright for PC gamers!

Pre-order Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim, DRM-free on GOG.com! The game is expected to launch on Tuesday, April 28.

LentFilms: Yeah, Ys fans tend to discredit those features.
The only point I've heard for why it didn't work was because it "didn't fit". Which I find silly.
The 3D models gave the game complete 360 controls for analog stick precision. It made everything feel very precise and smooth.

Also, I found the voice acting to be very well done, 85% of the time.
The entire game was voiced, every NPC had another layer of personality that the text couldn't contribute. It made talking to random towns people "funner", even if they had nothing important to say.

I just find it disheartening to know that these features will not be carried over to future versions of the game.
[NOTE: I'm talking about the PS2 version of the game. The PSP version was horrible.]

FlamingFirewire: I think it has alot more to do with XSEED wanting to or having to side step Konami completely as the reason for why we're not seeing the voice acting, 3D models, or the extra dungeons. As they're working directly with Falcom, an extra contract with Konami would be required to use the aspects that Konami introduced/created for the game.
Not to mention expensive as well considering Xseed is pretty small.
Also its not a good idea to involve more partys than you have too.
May create legal mess later leaving certian titles in limbo.

I can understand this.
I'm sure its, if nothing else, easier for XSEED to exclusively live off of their existing partnership with Falcom then to have to talk to Konami.

Its unfortunate...

P.S. Forgot about that added dungeon. Thanks for reminding me.

It's cheaper too and less of a legal hassle. No need to split the profits with a 3rd party over assets that weren't even very well received to begin with and no need to draw up additional contracts and license agreements. Frankly, if XSeed is willing to take the time to establish contacts with companies abroad, I'd rather have them approach Joyoland, so we'll have a chance to see Ys VII or Zero no Kiseki on PC in the west someday.
From what I've been told it is overall easier than Oath in Felghana (Ys 3). I am playing Ys Origin atm which its gameplay was inspired by Ys 6. If you played Origin or OiF, YOU'll feel right at home.
Overall, Felghana's probably harder overall, but Napishtim's difficulty is more prone to sucker punching you out of the blue. In Felghana, you're unlikely to take a wrong turn and get punished by having a monster suddenly OHKO you. Napishtim is slightly more likely to pull dirty tricks.

You'll notice that Napishtim is still lacking some things that Felghana and Origin had. No double jump or dash, for instance and a very weird "dash jump" that can be used to reach out-of-reach places, but is ludicrously tricky to pull off on the fly. You also have...I think...6 accessory slots that have to be unlocked over the course of the game though for the most part you'll place anti-status ailment stuff in them. Magic works differently too and it was the reason Napishtim Adol in Ys Origin was so ludicrously overpowered...rather than having a magic meter that auto-recharges after a second or so, Napishtim's magic is more like a limit-break that you charge by attacking enemies (though it starts auto-recharging once your weapon levels have increased a bit) and tend to save for emergencies.

Yes, it's cheaper. The final product is "cheaper" then what has been available since 2005.
I wont be buying it.

So is Ys I and II considered the "best" of the series?
Please pardon the noob question, but does the 15% discount apply only to pre-orders, or will it continue for a while after the game is released?

I think if you asked most people they'd say the best PC Ys game is Oath in Felghana or Origin so far - while Ys 1+2 are still great games, they appeal far more to people willing to work with the bumping mechanic that isn't really seen outside of those games.

Interesting! So now it's between Oath and Origin! :P

Judging from past behaviour, I would say that the 15% discount will apply only to pre-orders, possibly with a lower discount (10%?) on launch.

Thanks for answering! :)
Nice to see GOG getting this day one so I can buy it here instead of Steam.

Yeah, I tried to get into Ys1, but the combat system really put me off. It's different in the latter games? If true, I might give another chace to the series.

yes it's different in the later games.
Yes, Ark of Napishtim, Oath in Felghana and Ys Origin (i.e: the other Ys games available here) are all typical hack and slash gameplay rather than the bump system the first two games featured. Check out the trailers on their respective pages.
