Yeah more games from japan coming to GOG! Really looking forward to when GOG is able to bring even more on board! Will just have to keep showing our support for these great games. Thanks GOG and Nihon Falcom/Xseed!

FlamingFirewire: There were actually two versions of Ys IV initially, developed by Hudson (The Dawn of Ys for the PC Engine) and Tonkinhouse (Mask of the Sun for SNES).
The information you have provided is correct. However, when Tonkinhouse was tasked with developing the Super Famicom version and Hudson was tasked with developing the PC-Engine version, both games were intended to be essentially the same. Surprisingly, Hudson took many creative liberties and, ultimately, decided to go in it's own direction. This resulted in two completely different games that only shared their setting in common. Years later, Falcom decided to remove Dawn of Ys from the official canon. To further impress that Mask of the Sun was the true fourth game in the series, they remade the game for the Japanese PS2 as Ys IV: Mask of the Sun - A New Theory. From there, Falcom made the re-imagined version, Memories of Celceta (or Foliage Ocean in Celceta), for the PS Vita.

Dawn of Ys has become nothing more than a "What if..." story, banished forever to the PC-Engine.
I like that you sell old games, but the concept of "pre-ordering" a game that came out in 2003 is a bit beyond me, whether the translation is new or not.

I can't understand Ys fans gravitation towards the PC version of Ys VI.
The PS2 version added 3D models and voice acting that were the bees-knees!
The added CGI cut-scenes sucked, but you could turn back on the originials with a cheat code (before starting the game).

All and all, I find it baffling that the old PC release is chosen to live on in digital distribution and not adapt the PS2 improvements to it.
XSEED's additions to this PC version more than make up (surpass, even) what Konami did. Catastrophe Mode allows players to experience Napishtim in terms similar to how Felghana plays, which is relevant because most newcomers started on that game and not Ys VI. Warping is just as important because of how large Napishtim's overworld is relative to what you actually need or want to do.

I disagree.
Catastrophe Mode, though quaint, is not a mode I can seriously see myself enjoying allot. Might be a personal taste thing, but I liked how vanilla Ys VI handled items quite a bit.
Also, the quick travel option sounds redundant. I don't remember Ys VI being a burden to traverse and can only see it being a bonus to video game reviewers that find it cumbersome to marinate on anything for very long.

And again, no voice acting or 3D models in the PC version. That sucks.

minneyar: Actually, there is a fan translation of the PC version that isn't based on Konami's translation at all. The names and terminology it uses differs from what XSEED has established for the series, though, and it would've taken a fair amount of editing to bring it in line with their standards for quality, so they decided just to translate it from the ground up by themselves rather than deal with all of the possible licensing issues.

jdkluv: I haven't heard of that fan-translation before (I'm talking about Doppiapunta & co.'s English patch here). Unless you mean Deuce and NightWolve's 95(ish)% script?

Doppiapunta & co.'s English patch basically took Konami's translation and changed a few words here and there, just so it's not verbatim. Can't really complain about that, since Konami's translation is actually quite good, but they don't seem to give them any credit. :-/
I was talking about both actually. I was wondering why not using Doppiapunta & co. english patch that was actually what the community that supported ys for years used. They could have contacted the team and asked for permission. However I'm curious about your allegation about the translation being a modified Konami translation. Never heard about that.
Anyway the first think I wondered is why they didn't asked Deuce again about licensing its translation and its support given that, as you said (and that's the same thing I knew) he already translated 95% of the game back in the day. Their ys catalogue is already based on Deuce translation so it would be better to continue with its style.

The 3D models and voice acting were actually elements that quite a few Ys fans liked least about the PSP2 version. I don't think PC players will miss it, seeing that the other Ys titles that XSeed released on the PC didn't have those "improvements" either.

Well, there's a voice mod for Felghana that uses the PSP voices. Maybe someone can do the same for this game :).

The only point I've heard for why it didn't work was because it "didn't fit". Which I find silly.
The 3D models gave the game complete 360 controls for analog stick precision. It made everything feel very precise and smooth.

Also, I found the voice acting to be very well done, 85% of the time.
The entire game was voiced, every NPC had another layer of personality that the text couldn't contribute. It made talking to random towns people "funner", even if they had nothing important to say.

I just find it disheartening to know that these features will not be carried over to future versions of the game.
[NOTE: I'm talking about the PS2 version of the game. The PSP version was horrible.]

I think it has alot more to do with XSEED wanting to or having to side step Konami completely as the reason for why we're not seeing the voice acting, 3D models, or the extra dungeons. As they're working directly with Falcom, an extra contract with Konami would be required to use the aspects that Konami introduced/created for the game.

From what I've been told it is overall easier than Oath in Felghana (Ys 3). I am playing Ys Origin atm which its gameplay was inspired by Ys 6. If you played Origin or OiF, YOU'll feel right at home.
I decided to buy Ys I & II now after reading this thread so thanks I guess. any idea how long it generally is overall?
