Charge up for adventure!

Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure, the modern installment of the classic series, in which the PC gaming's iconic private investigator returns with his fedora, trenchcoat, glorious Full-Motion Video camp, and--who could expect that--amnesia, is now available 10% off for pre-orders on GOG.com. That's $17.99 <s>until April 22</s> until May 7, when the game is expected to arrive. Pre-ordering on GOG.com yields you a special bonus in the form of the game's full soundtrack and one classic Tex Murphy game of your choice!

In Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure the classic adventure hero wakes up--disoriented and head pounding--on the fire escape outside his office atop the Ritz Hotel. Another typical morning for the last of the old-school detectives. Except it isn’t. What starts out as the worst hangover in history becomes a baffling nightmare: something--or someone--has erased Tex’s memory of the past seven years. Motivated by lost love, revenge, and the world’s strongest coffee blend, Tex must retrace his own steps into a maze of unsolved murders, hidden agendas, and lost technologies of Nikola Tesla. Only by solving the mysteries of his past can Tex hope to regain his memory in time to restore what’s been lost and stop a terrifying future.

If you missed Tex, make sure to pre-order Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure on GOG.com, for only $17.99. You'll get instant access to the game's soundtrack (both MP3 and FLAC format), and a special gift-code allowing you to redeem one classic Tex Murphy game of your choice will be sent to you via e-mail by the end of the week. This special pre-order offer lasts <s>until April 22</s> until May 7, when the game is (currently) scheduled for launch.

EDIT:
As per Big Finish Games' statement, the release of Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure is postponed to allow the developer some more fine-polishing of the anticipated game. The current expected release date is May 7, 2014. We're sorry if this delay causes you any inconvenience!

Lord_Britania: It was supposed to be a DRM free game.
The bullshit logic of "DRM-free" Steam releases has been perpetuated enough that they apparently think that Steam keys will do.

avatar
handsfree: I'm a backer, but would not have backed if I knew I had to register on Steam. And never going to do that anyway.
Nor would I have, not in a million years. I'm furious!

avatar
handsfree: But I've no idea how to get to the backers only section, never been there.
Oh, just log into their website and check out the forums. There is one subforum entitled "Backers only" (or something to that effect).

Plus, they are saying that GOG is to blame for not getting the codes to them on time for release, so they went with Steam only.

Something stinks ---

Longcat: Just confirm, I e-mailed Big Finish Games and got this reply:

"I understand.
We are delivering the Backer Codes through Steam.
But the delivery is DRM Free, and does not require Steam to be running or even installed to play.
I'm sorry, but there is no plan I am aware of to issue GOG codes.

The same thing happened with the Kickstarter of Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded. They sent out Steam codes, but not GOG. I'd actually have the game I backed on my GOG account right now, instead of Steam which I've never used before.

The one all-deciding factor here is that you could download Larry Reloaded from the Replay website directly, DRM-free. No Steam required. Big Finish Games apparently don't intend to offer that option.

All I want is a DRM-free installer, that doesn't require me to register on fucking Steam. Whether they get that to me via gog or via their website, I don't even care anymore. But as it stands, I feel royally screwed over.

Lord_Britania: I emailed them to see if it's possible to change a steam code to a gog code.

I really hope it will be possible.

It was supposed to be a DRM free game.
avatar
lskovlun: It will be DRM-free, even on Steam - read the post that handsfree quoted :-)
I have to create a account and install steam software and accept EULA or whatever. Steam is not Origin, but still it's not really DRM Free.

Anyway while i'm writing this i got the answer and that's sad. No exchange. Steam Only.

Frack...
Well, I bought it from gog only and I still can't download it. Hopefully it will be ready to download soon. Would like to play it today but it is not looking likely.

Wait, so the Kickstarter backers only have 1 option, Steam? That's unfortunate, I hate to say it, I'm really glad I missed the Kickstarter and just bought it here at GOG.

Situations like that make me weary of future Kickstarter projects.

Yep one option only.

If there's a tex 6, i won't give them a coin from me.

Even if they offer it on GOG?
Damn, It's now too late to download and play it tonight. :(
I hope GOG will make the game available for the regular users during the night so I can play it tomorrow

Wait Tex 7 no 6, 6 is Tesla effect ^^'

Well anyway, they won't give GOG code to Tesla Effect so no interest in the next Tex if they retry the Kickstarter experience.
I must say, this is quite the bait-and-switch they have pulled on backers looking forward to the GOG version. Not to mention the fact that they have had an entry for a GOG key on the Mutant League site for a long time -- it yields the message "Code already used" for me.
I hope this is just a misunderstanding on their part; why would GOG be sending the codes to them then?

I don't remember the kickstarter saying there would be GOG codes, only that the game itself would probably be on GOG and it is being offered by GOG. GOG is probably just trying to get it up for download/sale so that everybody gets what they want: A new tex murphy adventure on GOG and DRM free.
What a surprising situation. Esp when GOG & BFG where doing the Beta, you'd have expected that backers would have got / had the option of GOG keys.
