Near-death experience.

Death's Gambit is now available for pre-order DRM-free on GOG.com. Pre-order now to get the Chosen of Death pack, which includes a scythe, a shield, and a kickass mount.

In the decaying land of Siradon, if you want to beat Death, you must first become him. Customize your condemned champion by picking your class, build, and weapons, but make sure your skills are as sharp as your scythe. The cursed creatures and hulking bosses that roam this land will show you no mercy and to achieve immortality you must become a master of your craft, as ruthless and effective as the one you serve.
I preordered this. It looks great, it's definitely my kind of game, I generally really like adult swim published titles, and, to me, preorders aren't "what's wrong with the video game industry", it's a legitimate means to show support for the devs and the publishers. If you have doubts, don't preorder. If you know nothing about the dev or the publisher, don't preorder. If you feel the price is too steep for what you can afford, while knowing next to nothing about the game, don't preorder. But if you trust the dev or the publisher, if they're somewhat "indie" and tend to release good games, or if you know the track record of either one and feel this could be your thing, then, there's nothing wrong in showing support and preordering a game.

I absolutely respect the anti-preorder people, but sometimes they tend to cross that line that separates sane people from paranoids with persecutory delusions.

I have preordered A LOT of games, here on GOG, and I have yet to regret one of those. As long as you trust either the publisher or the dev, as long as you know about the game and are absolutely positive you're going to like it, there's nothing wrong with preordering, it's just the customer showing support for people they believe deserve it. Plus, it shows publishers that GOG is a viable store to sell their games on, it shows publishers DRM-free pays off, too, and that paying customers will preorder their game on GOG just like they would have on "other better-known stores" (that's Steam, by the way).

Now, the waiting game begins! One month to go.

CharlesGrey: Modern Zelda for the basics of the combat system, but the rest seems to be based on games such as Castlevania and Diablo. Plus, the From Software devs seem to be big fans of old-school ( 1st Person ) Western RPGs, as you can tell by their older releases, before the Souls series. I think that explains why many of their design choices seem strange or old fashioned, when compared to the work of most other modern AAA studios. ( The lack of auto-maps, in example, or the overall difficulty and complexity of their games. )
Classic Zelda games, too, I think: action-adventure, big semi-open world that opens up in chunks, big boss fights, collect the items from bosses to open the way to the final boss (who has been there in the center the whole time), easy to die if you get sloppy.

But yeah, there are multiple influences of course, and the Soulsborne games have definitely forged their own subgenre.

If you haven't played it, I recommend giving Nioh a shot - it's a great game. Only major gripe is a lack of new enemy types in the later part of the game. It's a Souls-like but features some great innovations on the mechanics.

CharlesGrey: But back on topic, I think it's quite remarkable this game has horses or similar creatures to ride on at all. Not a common choice in this type of game, so I wonder how that aspect of the gameplay will work out.

As for the pre-order bonus -- Not a fan of that either, but at least it seems to be mostly cosmetic? Besides, it might be available for purchase as a separate add-on after the game's release, or better yet, all of that content might already be in the game, just not normally available right at the beginning.
I preordered this one, but I do hope the Chosen of Death pack is sold as DLC later. Preorder exclusive game content sucks - even skins and other minor content. Often it never becomes (legally) available to the majority of players (relevant GOG mix I've made).

Grim Dawn (Loyalist Upgrade DLC) and Kingdom Come (Treasures of the Past DLC) got it right - if you're going to have a preorder bonus, allow those who missed the preorder or couldn't afford it to pay a bit extra to get the content later.

If any devs are reading, there's an article on Wikipedia about the Nightmare (edit: can't get the link to work on this forum - search Nightmare horse). We need it! ;)

Ancient-Red-Dragon: The store page does not list "controller support" as a feature. Is this game going to have that or not? Given the type of game it is, whether it has controller support or not is crucial information that the customer needs to know.
The store page now reflects the correct information, hope this clears up any confusion!

But yes, controllers support is there!

Very fluid looking in motion. If the combat feels just as smooth this might be quite good.
