So I decided to get one piñata because I felt like getting a new game, and I get Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons (a game that I already had), and was quite disgusted to find that it is on sale right now for $2.99 on GOG.

Really GOG? I thought all of the games were worth $6.99 or more? I paid more for the piñata than I would have for the game itself. I am very much not pleased, especially given you are supposed to be this "Great and honest company", this appears to simply be an extremely dishonest and very greedy move to me.

I'm trying to get a refund through support so I'll update this post if they respond.

In short: every Piñata costs $3 (or your local equivalent) and gets you a mystery game with a base price between $5.99 and $44.99 (base price meaning the regular price of the game outside sales and without applied discounts) . Brothers is on sale right now so it's current asking price is lower but the regular price of Brothers within the current sale discount is within the 5,99$ - 44.99$ window. Nothing greedy there and better reading helps :D

It is a gamble where you might go a single cent back or save a tenner with luck, assuming you get a game you want. The last bit is the one that makes me stay clear of these mystery sales.

Yeah, this is just "caveat emptor". You didn't get good luck on your gamble, and didn't pay attention to what the rules are of the game. No sympathy for you. I hope you don't get a refund. Then you might have actually learned a lesson for the cost of one cent. That's possibly the cheapest lesson you could ever learn.

I understand that it is a gamble, it just seems wrong to actually charge more for the pinata that the game inside is worth.

They did offer me a refund though so can't be too mad at them (I still think it's a bit shady that you can get a game that costs less without the pinata than with it at the time of purchase though). I read the full FAQ, I understood that there was a chance that they would be on sale for less than $6.99, the issue I had was that it cost LESS than the pinata itself when nowhere was it mentioned that it could.

While this is all true, it's still bad form to have a game in the pinata mix that's currently on sale for less than the price of the pinata. IMO.

As I said to @OneFiercePuppy, I understood that when I bought it, even if it had been on sale for $3.01 it would not have been angry about it, the issue I had was that it was on sale for LESS than I paid for the pinata. Agreed.

I was lucky and got pillars of eternity in one pinãta, then I bought two more piñata and the two games were below 3$. I thought I couldn't get a game below $3, but didn't read it was the BASE price. Damn!

Some people just insta click on the " buy for " button ( many of them several times ) instead of reading the faq first .

I think the point is that someone would buy the game that is on sale if they wanted it. They made out like the games being offered were not the cheap ones on sale, which GOG must know if someone wanted that specific crap game for 3 dollars they would have bought it instead of a pinata. It just doesnt make logical sense nor does it specifically state anywhere in the FAQ that any of the games in the pinata are games that are on currently on sale for 2.99.

I would like my 3 dollars back, and I think this was whole thing was bit underhanded.

So get your $3.00 back. You didn't download the crap game you don't want, right? Simply put a support request in on the order that contains the game, and ask for a refund. Not hard.

I would try contacting support, they offered me a refund. I did read the FAQ, nowhere did it say that the game could cost less than I paid for the pinata.

While I don't appreciate this mode of sale, they could have implemented it way better.
As some posts reported, the not getting already owned games bit also isn't working.

No where did they state it couldn't. That works both ways.
