Clive barkers Jericho for a lot of reason i loved that game especially the weird story, i loved the shooting, felt solid and different character with different abilities. Some may say its gets repetitive but still enjoyable
I have a hard time understanding people listing F.E.A.R. to be honest (although different strokes for different folks etc).

The FPS parts are great sure, but the horror parts are just...well...not scary in the least. Alma pops up in the most predictable places, as in you'll notice certain spots or signs, make a mental note "she's going to pop up there in a few steps", take a few steps and hit the trigger spot and boom there she is. By the second level you'll be able to tell when she (or the other horror bits) are going to pop up with nearly 100% accuracy. Plus they keep reusing certain sequences, none of which are scary. Oh no that guy walking around the corner while talking to me just turned to ashes...gee...it's just as scary as the first 40 times it happened.

No, I wasn't meta gaming and I tried to immerse myself in it and played at night with my headphones on but the only scary thing about F.E.A.R. was the monotony of the offices. The "horror" was just constantly telegraphed from a mile away and it's impossible not to notice, and even if it wasn't, the horror bits wouldn't be scary. Great shooting mechanics and AI though.

IronArcturus: It looks like the "free" version has a bunch of ads unfortunately.
Can i hug you? Hey, thanks a LOT for this link! Even though i have it authentic, i prefer THIS version. Also, in your link, there is both the patch AND the sound fix, which i totally MISSED and i always played my game with messed up sound effects! Time for fresh new play on it with widescreen and correct sound!

Still though, it is sad, gog could easily strike a bargain on this one since it is freeware already! I would pay up good money in order to get it here.

I'm glad the link helped you out! :)

The PCGamingWiki is a great site to find obscure information about PC games. But I'm still trying to figure out where is the CLARC save file. It's not listed in the wiki for some reason. Do you have that game by any chance?

It also would be cool if GOG could get The Suffering. I've always wanted to try that game!

Apologies, i have not even heard about this one (CLARC)... Damn, i hate it each and every time that i cannot repay a favor, or be helpful in turn to someone who helped me, due to my own limited knowledge... :(

NoNewTaleToTell: the monotony of the offices.
Pleonasm?

I don't know of any game that's really convincing on the horror side, but arachnophobs may have quite a hard time going through some sections of Dark Messiah Of Might And Magic.

Now that game looks pretty cool! It has over 1,900 votes in the wishlist!

No problem, since I already had the game installed it only took me about 20 seconds to find that with Procmon. :-)

Cryostasis - A personal favourite. A highly atmospheric game that doesn't make you a super solder, but a regular guy trying to survive with some old Soviet weapons at his disposal. Well worth a look given your requirements.

Alien Isolation - Another one that pretty much nails what you're after. In this one you're even less combat proficient than in Cryostasis. So your best bet by far is hiding. But that doesn't mean that some more ballsy options don't present themselves from time to time.

Blood - Of the old school, Blood is the best candidate by far. More horror themed than actually a horror. Especially now. Still has some very nice level design and weapons that make it well worth the effort.

Condemned - much more of a horror than FEAR and a tad more complex and involving. That said, if you want something more like a straight up FPS in a horror environment then FEAR better fits the bill.

Undying - while Clive Barker's involvement might have been belated it still has more of a legitimate horror story to tell than most of the above combined. It as also aged surprisingly well.

Realms of the Haunting - another personal favourite. Albeit one that I can't claim has aged as well as the above. It still does a lot of things right and is worth considering.
