As the title says, The Game of the Century edition has been removed and replaced with the inferior Re-Elected edition.

Even if you already owned The Game of the Century edition, it has been retroactively been changed to Re-Elected , which is crawling with Epic Games integration, as well as lacking many features.

GOG, please bring back the original version!

Define "Epic Games integration" please.

Thanks for the heads up.

Do you know if the offline installer for "Game of the Century" also gone? Think I saw someone post that it was still there a few days ago but that it could be updated to Reelected at any time..

Sady I do not see it anymore. They did this with steam version as well. What kind of deal did gearbox make with epic??

Edit: I can confirm you can remove dumb EOS and still run the game fine.

Crossplay with other platforms is achieved by using Epic Online Services, so you need an Epic account to play coop/multi.

Thanks for checking, sad indeed to see that it/s gone. "Game of the Century" could have been a great release to keep available long term for retro rigs.
This has been a topic for several days now, people (including me) kept telling everyone to backup their offline installers.

You can get back the original version through Galaxy.
Go to Game options (top right), installation, configure.
Then deactivate automatic updates and revert to the 2017 version. (see screenshot)

btw, there is no "Epic Games integration", the new version uses the Epic Online Services to connect to other players on Steam or Epic, allowing Crossplay.
You can however just deny the installation and launch the game using it's .exe file and play without EOS.

Of course they did, they announced it in big capital letters. All platforms share the same version now in order to allow crossplay. But they also announced that on every platform it would be possible to revert to the original version without EOS.

I would have preferred if we got a new game entry for this version, but it is what it is and the original is still available to everyone, and even the new version can be played without any DRM.

In the good old days, I could just ping a staffer and ask them to make the original version a separate library entry (or include it in the bonus section) and they'd do that. Don't have high hopes of that happening now, but let's see...

Those were the days my friend, we thought they never end, we'd sing and dance forever and a day ...

Would be nice indeed tho.

What makes it a bit complicated, is Galaxy and that they didn't create a new game entry. The default setting is "auto update". So - at least until yesterday - if you install the game via offline installers and then start Galaxy (or have it running already), the first thing it does is to update the game to the new version.
If you are quick enough, you can abort the download, then deactivate auto update and set the old version as the one you want to use.
But who knows ... now that the game received a new readable ID, maybe this doesn't happen anymore.

Obligatory "always back up your offline installers" post. They're not there purely for the worst case of GOG going out of business, they are there for several reasons including insurance against unwanted "bait & switch" replacements, unwanted gameplay changes, retaining older OS compatibility, or Remasteritus in general.

There are multiple negative reviews on Steam thanks to the Re-Elected update. Aside from decrying the bundling of Epic Online Services, there are also complains that borderless window mode has been removed, that the game won't flat out start, or that it doesn't recognize older saves because the new version doesn't contain all the DLCs (in contrast to what Deep Silver claimed). As a cherry on the top, the beta branch option that was supposed to house the original version is just the same Re-Elected version. All-in-all, it sounds like a dodged bullet for those who backed up the original installer. For the rest, well, you are at GOG's mercy.

Blastprocessor42: [...]as well as lacking many features.
What features specifically?

All I found so far is that lighting has been "improved" and that crossplay through EOS was added. Other than that it seems to be the same game + all DLC...
Game of the Century runs in 7. Doesn't look like Re-Elected does.

Randalator: What features specifically?
2 free DLCs seem to be missing but were listed as included in the original description, also the borderless window mode seems to be gone.
The first one might be a bug, the second one ... who knows.

On the plus side: Since the new version features online functions, it won't crash if you click one of the according menu options. That was a problem with the original version. Other than in SR3-GOG Voliton didn't remove the menus for online functions from SR4-GOG, just the functions themselves.

Older saves can be loaded, but you get a warning, that some DLCs are missing, that's all (the same goes for the GOG version).
