Hi guys,

Having an issue changing the resolution to the required 640x480 as my laptop only goes down to 800x600. Does anyone know what to do?

Hi, you can try this:

right-click on the game shortcut icon, select "properties", select the "compability" tab, then select "run in 640x480"

Regarding the Jedi Knight series you might experience graphic problems anyway. So if you want to force a certain resolution and avoid graphic problems I would recommend using dgvoodoo 2 wrapper. If you don't have any graphic problems and are fine playing with such a low resolution what tfishell posted might also be enough to do the trick :)

Hey, thanks for the response. Sorry, can you give me a walkthrough of how to do that?

Of course :)
1) First download dgvoodoo2 from here. I tried it using version 2.53 but you might also try to use version 2.54.
2) Extract the files wherever you like.
3) Copy or move all files from the extracted subfolfder MS into your game directory.
4) Launch the dgVoodooSetup.exe and click "add" on the upper left to add your gaming directory as config folder. The configurater will then put a copy of the configuration file into your game directory. Make sure that you are using the correct config folder whenever you are changing settings in dgvoodoo.
5) Force resolution like it is shown in my attached screenshot.

If you have further questions or problems feel free to ask. Like I said the Jedi Knight engine always made problems with my nVidia card and dgVoodoo fixed those completely :)

I followed everything above, but it still doesn't want to work. It starts to open up and then says JK2.exe has stopped working. Do you have any other suggestions?

I have several suggestions.
Obviously dgVoodoo is not working for you. So you can delete the dgVoodoo files from within the game directory to revert the game to its default state. Do you get the same error message when you now start the game? What exactly does the game tell you?

You can change the resolution that the game uses by editing a config file :
To set a custom resolution go to \Jedi Outcast\GameData\base and open jk2config.cfg. Find "seta r_customwidth" and and seta "r_customheight" and change them to your desired resolution's respective width and height. Change seta r_mode to -1 to activate the custom resolution.

First try this and see if the game launches afterwards. Just to be sure make a backup of jk2config.cfg.

If none of the above should work you still have the possibility to use other wrappers like wined3d (works the same as the dgvoodoo wrapper but without configuration possibility).

Thanks for all your help. It just says JK2.exe has stopped working. I checked the box that says "don't show this message again" regarding the optimal resolution message that it used to show when the game didn't work, so I assume this may still be the issue. I don't seem to have the jk2config.cfg file in the "base" folder. I guess I will try the other wrapper, and if that doesn't work, might have to try a different computer

You have the config file there. Wait a moment please. I will install it myself.
O.K.. Found the problem. The file is created when the game was started the first time and since it does not even start for you... unfortunately GOG does not allow me to attach my config file but I have uploaded it to my google drive so you can download it from there: https://drive.google.com/open?id=12bv9RtC_5gUCxIeOVtXmKpQbZDTcWtV4

I'm just downloading and re-installing the game again to try it fresh. It is so strange that Jedi Academy worked fine, but this game won't work at all. Will keep you posted :)
