PookaMustard: Alright, though I met an obstacle here, namely, the structuring of the files inside the OBB. Can anyone tell me what's inside the Tomb Raider folders for the PC games? I have TR2 on Vapor but I'd have to redownload it. I want the base folder plus the pix and data folders.

Okay, now what is inside the TOMBRAID folder?
avatar
king_mosiah: Sure the old binaries work today. But what about 10-20 years down the line? With a free (as in freedom) engine, these games will run on practically anything, and be preserved for future generations of gamers. Not to mention how much better an open source engine will be for modding.

rtcvb32: I'd add that adding fixes to bad controls, especially camera controls becomes an option rather than just running the old binaries. Last I remember the original Tombraider the camera loved to swing behind you, like whiplash.

... When was the last time I tried the original TombRaider? Been... 20 years? Played it with like 10 frames a second on my computer with the CD copied to the hard drive (which was no easy feat since I had to have a pretty empty drive at the time).
You can already control the camera with the mouse in OpenTomb. Though, I consider the tank controls part of the challenge (if not the charm) of these games.

For getting the original Tomb Raider's assets, you might want to give this a read.

Unfortunately, none of that is what you need. If you look at my the link I posted, you'll see that the process for getting the assets from TR1 is a bit more involved than the others.

The Android version doesn't include that file. Rather, this is what I have in the OBB:
https://1drv.ms/f/s!Ar6sDvz1zhVkhmr3JHEFpVBYGEYX

But yes, Snowkatt might want to dig into the GAME.GOG files in order to retrieve info.

Hmm... You'll have to ask on the forum then. I've only used the GOG versions with OpenTomb, so my experience is limited here. Though if you have Tomb Raider 2 on Steam, getting the data files for that will be easy.
Heading out for a while. If anyone gets the assets for any of the games installed you'll need to know the command to start them (it IS still pre-alpha after all).

When you start OpenTomb, all you'll see is a black screen with a red cross-hair in the middle. To load one of the games, bring up the LUA console with the ~ key and use the 'setgamef' command followed by the game and level number you want to load. Here are some examples:

setgamef (1,1) = First game; first level

setgamef (2, 2) = Second game; second level

setgamef (3,99) = Third game; Lara's home (99 stands for the training level in the first three games)

I've never played any of the Tomb Raider games with a mouse... Then again I never got to play the second or third games, and well my impressions from the first one still hold to me, even if the second and third are vastly different.

I'm not sure I could go back to the game to give it a try either. PS2 is generally the minimum graphical level I want to play with games, and TR is more akin to pre-PS1.

But we'll see.

Personally, I think the tank controls work better with a M+KB than the old PS1 controller. But to each their own. And there are already graphical mods that should work with OpenTomb.

I think he means the Android version is lacking that file. The Steam and GOG versions are confirmed to be compatible, as are the old CD versions for the PC. It's the Android version I'm unsure about. Though, if it's a DOSBOX "port", the process in the link I posted should work.

only one way to find out i suppose
i was just commenting on the extra legwork required to get 1 to work

Yeah. The original being a DOS game means it has a different process to get the assets. The others are much simpler though.
Positive progress!

I copied all the PHD files (along with the two stray awb files) from the OBB into data/tr1/data, then the OGGs without any language hooks attached to them (such as _EN or _DE at the end of the filename) into data/tr1/audio and renamed all of them from track_XX.ogg to 0XX.ogg (where XX is a two-digit number). Finally, I downloaded the pix from a source.

And then I opened OpenTomb. The levels worked along with the music. Except I have HUGE problems.

1. I cannot select anything in the menu interface. I've gone through pretty much most my keyboard and yet I couldn't select ANYTHING.
2. Nothing attacks Lara. NOTHING. The bats are minding their own business, the tigers/lions/whatever are sleeping, the poison darts don't even shoot

I wonder if these two are just pre-alpha problems. But there you have it. The Android version on OpenTomb.

Right. This is what makes it pre-alpha. The menus have not been implemented and the enemy AI is just now being worked on. This is the stage where testing is most important; when these features are just being added. Good to know the Android version is compatible too.
