Personally, I think this site could use more ancient games, like those from the early 1980's or earlier. Those games could use more love, especially since a majority of the site's userbase likely wasn't even alive when some of those games were made.

Where's Pong? Rogue? How about other early RPGs that aren't Ultima, Alakabeth, or Might and Magic? (I note that Wizardry 1-5 are missing, and Wizardry 6-8 aren't what I am calling "ancient" here.)

(Also, it's unlikely at this point, but it would be nice to have the original Dragon Warrior, Final Fantasy, and Phantasy Star here; more people should be exposed to early JRPGs, which are very different from more recent ones.)

It comes down to whether they can make money off it. Remember they are a business not a museum, they need to sell things (hence why forum and stuff gets forgotten about). Do you think anyone would pay for very early games when most are public domain?

Public domain? Which early games are in the public domain? The copyright for them should still be valid, though some could have been released as freeware (not the same as public domain).

Maybe Public Domain isn't the right word, but the above is an example. And yes, your probably right, the severely broken copyright laws probably do protect US ownership of everything since the dawn of time.

Library. Not Public Domain. You can find a ton of books published in the last decade in your local library, that doesn't mean said books are in the Public Domain.

Public Domain does not only mean you can freely distribute it, it also allows you to adapt and/or modify said item to your heart's content. So if your local theater wishes to do a performance of Hamlet, they don't have to pay any royalties (public domain), while if they want to do a performance of Hogfather they'll have to ask permission from Rhianna Pratchett (current copyright holder).
