Hi everyone,

I am a bit at a loss. I bought two Mac Games on GOG ages ago, with my now ex-husbands account. (It is Star Trek 25th Anniversary and Star Trek Judgment Rites.) Back then I used a now pretty old MacBook Air.

I found the two games on an old backup drive and copied them on my new Mac. They won't start. When I go through the app resources, it either opens as a dialog window that the App is not compatible with the current macOS version and needs to be updated. Or it says in the terminal window when I start the GOGLauncher from the app resources that

"The application cannot be opened for an unexpected reason, error=Error Domain=NSOSStatusErrorDomain Code=-10386 "(null)" UserInfo={_LSLine=3863, _LSFunction=_LSOpenStuffCallLocal}"

Unfortunately I can't just download the two games again. I used my ex-husbands account to buy them, which I now obviously don't have access to anymore. Before I spend the money again, is there any way of updating the game files? Or is there another work-around?

Thank you so much!

(ps I finally made my own GOG account. yeah!)

I think both run Dosbox, so it should be possible to use a newer version from https://www.dosbox.com/download.php?main=1 or a fork. I assume that there is a version that runs on 64 bit only OS X.
Use 64-bit Boxer.
Some of GOG's old games no longer (officially) run on Mac ever since Apple updated its OS.
"Star Trek 25th A" is no longer officially supported on Mac according to the store ("Judgement Rites" still is though).

As the above posters suggested you can try to download an updated version of DosBox and run it through there.
You can also read this old post about trying to run "ST:25th" on Mac:
https://www.gog.com/forum/star_trek_25th_anniversary/wont_launch

And welcome back to GOG. I hope you'll be a regular member of our community :)

EDIT:
The last time that the Mac installer for Star Trek: 25th Anniversary was updated was on June 2020.
Strangely enough "Judgement Rites" was last updated on 2019.

GOG updated many DOS games with a 64-bit DOSBox, but not all of them. They used to use 32-bit Boxer, so it's a shame they went with 64-bit DOSBox when 64-bit Boxer is clearly better.
Hi everyone,

wow so many answers! I didn't expect that anyone would try to help out.

okay, so I downloaded the latest version of Dosbox and Boxer.

I am actually able to run 25th anniversary with boxer on Monterey with my 64 gig Macbook! Wow! With sound and everything. It is great to hear the voices of my favorite crew. Thank you so much.

When I try to open Star Trek Judgment Rites.boxer though, it opens boxer and just shows a black screen. There is a menu up left which shows all the executables. No matter what I click, nothing changes. When I close the menu again, it just shows the black screen. (see attached screenshot for file options)

Now with dosbox I have no idea where to start trying, since I have no clue how to mount the .app game file (or rather its file contents) to a dosbox drive. The internal help isn't that much helpful.

Anyone got any more ideas?

Unfortunately since I'm not a Mac user I can provide any more help on the subject.
But, since this is your first GOG account and you still don't have any games here, I suggest you search the store for games you can add for free. Many of them are just demos but you'll also find plenty of Mac compatible full games here :
