It looks very much like Archon II graphics-wise, the only thing that is „wrong“ is the fantasy setting.

It could have been ZX Spectrum.

I only played it in two-player mode. Not sure about player vs. computer; too young to remember. Same answer for more players.

Static playing field, I think castles were always visible.

I do not remember the exact names, but I think it was these three units. I remember that each had its own cost, with the catapults being the hardest to attain. Not sure how exactly the money was earned.

No visible grid as far as I remember, but I could easily be wrong on that.

I have no idea whether this was an official cassette or copied one. My cousin was studying electronics/informatics at the time, so he could have easily been one of those “bedroom coders” as you call them. The game looked legit though, so I doubt it was locally coded or produced using the WCS.

The language was English as far as I remember. In fact, the first games in Croatian that I remember came through BBS forums and floppy disks in the early nineties (not familiar with older titles).

My cousin was throwing up every time we came for a visit because that was the only game I wanted to play. But, yes, you are quite right, it is quite possible I come across this title only to not recognize it at all.
I have acquired the Ulti, mate T,ape Arch, ive, so I am trying to go through this. If that fails, I will try to find out is something similar exists for ZX Spectrum and try my luck there.

As per the Fortress game...
No, just two castles and the map was presented differently, more like Archon II as mentioned in the earlier post.

Now I am looking at this repository: https://classicreload.com/platform/zx%20spectrum?page=2

It could have easily been ZX Spectrum xD The graphics feel right.
It's on this particular list, so I will have to dig in harder.

LordMarlock: snip
I just remembered another home computer that came with a cassette deck:
the Amstrad CPC 464 (or Schneider CPC 464, as it was known in Germany).

Thing is: I'm not familiar with which systems were available in Croatia in the early to mid 80s...that's something, you know much better than I do.

However, here's also a list of games for the Amstrad CPC:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Amstrad_CPC_games

If you think, it might have been an Amstrad - simply set the release dates of the alphabetical sub sections to "from 1983 up"...there's a lot you have to go through... :)

These two come close:

I will check the Amstrad CPC as well, thanks!

It might be better and possibly a lot quicker if you were able to make contact with your cousin, to see if they can remember the name of the game ?.
I would have done this already if it were possible. Somebody already suggested this.

I think this is the one xD xD xD If I had a tail, I would be the happiest puppy xD
I've imported it through Launchbox, it uses Retroarch, now I just need to figure out how to set up keyboard controls.

Bre, you are genius! :)

Ah, not really.
After you had first linked to the "Vikings" game...: https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/5575/ZX-Spectrum/Vikings
and then to the list of Specci games: https://worldofspectrum.org/archive/software/quick-list/1

...all I did, was simply adding 1 + 1, and the result was "Viking Raiders".

Glad I could help. Hope, you enjoy your childhood memories. :)
I will, tnx bud!!
Vielen Dank! :) Ich freut mich als ein Kind xD

Well done BreOl72!!
Very happy your located your childhood memory game. When I was considering what it might be, I remembered the old Dos - War of the Lance game https://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/war-of-the-lance You may look into an emulated version of it, to further scratch your Castle capturing fun.
All of these castles must now fall xD

BTW, maybe someone here could help me out with a problem I am having since yesterday morning.

I am no longer able to open this page: https://www.gog.com/forum/general
I only see a globe.

Obviously, I can access the site and other parts of the forum, but this page is not accessible to me.
I have disabled all add-ons, but nothing. In privacy mode, it is accessible.

Any idea what this might be?
I am using Firefox, latest build.
