dtgreene: I want to know specifically how a screen reader handles this bit of text.

In particular, I want to know whether it's accessible to screen reader users.

(I note that using letters from the math block (like what would be used for variables in mathematical equations) in place of text works rather poorly in a screen reader, and I'm wondering whether this text has the same issue.)

Sachys: then get the email and try it. you could ask somebody to forward it to you.
The issue isn't the lack of the e-mail text; it's the lack of a screen reader.

Are you asking for a friend then or what?
By "screen reader" you mean speech synthesiser?
I just saw a bunch of squares and simply ignored it. Glad to know I'm not the only one who couldn't read the email subject.

Lexor: Well, I know about possible reasons, but for me as for the "older" user / gamer: the more "unusual things" I'm getting in my newsletters the less chance I will read them, so... I think GOG is missing their target consumers by a mile.
Thing is, GOG has many target customer demographics, not just older customers who may or may not have a sizable dislike of emoticons and emojis.

Those Unicode numbers appear to be from this code block:
http://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/U1F100.pdf
https://unicode-table.com/en/blocks/enclosed-alphanumeric-supplement/

I used to get annoyed by those and failed to understand the gibberish blocks.
I wanted to see what they were supposed to look like, so I downloaded some fonts.
