is it possible to get the old video game nocturne working on windows 8?
Probably would have been better to post in the dedicated forum.

Have you tried Compatibility Mode, or Troubleshooter, or whatever it's called in Win 8?
doubt it
it wont run on 7
and refuses to run on xp in a vm
in my experience it will only run on xp on actual hardware
It depends, as it is with all pc games. I've read on reddit once that someone was able to run just fine on Windows 7 & Windows 8 maxed, just had to tweak the resolution.

Other times required some tweaking:

I'm guessing that the codecs are part of the problem.

A lot of old games use codecs that are no longer supported, although there are workarounds sometimes.
I was playing it on Windows 10 just this year. I believe all i used was Win 98 compatibility mode, and I was using an AMD card at the time with the latest drivers. The game does need an ancient Intel codec for the intro that I can't remember off the top of my head, but it doesn't crash if you don't have it, it simply doesn't play the video.

I now have an nVidia card, so I'll test it again when i get a chance. I've always had trouble with the game on modern nVidia hardware so i'm guessing it won't run anymore.

It does work well in Wine if you have Linux regardless of your hardware.

That's good, a lot of games will simply crash or freeze if they don't play.

I think the codec for this game was Intel Indeo.

it wont work for me on window s7 64 bit
the game just crashes

i do however have an nvidia card so that might be the culprit
wonder how it does on an intel card
